The Story
We are Abi and Agasha, born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. This idea has come from our past creative projects having separately documented different realms of our hometown. Abi's passion for capturing and archiving the old school car scene began in 2020 when she took a candid photo of an owner of an old school car when she first moved to South Atlanta. She appreciated the time capsule-like element of the vehicle and the owner's dedication to it. Since then, when she sees an old school car around the city she photographs and archives the photos, often creating collages and videos with the material. Agasha is now based in Brooklyn, New York and creates works that reflects the communities that inspire her and connect with her foundation growing up in Atlanta. We decided to combine our unique talents to create the South Side Project.
the South Side Project will dive into the layered culture of the old school car scene within the zones of Atlanta, Georgia, our home town. This film will investigate the nuances and beauty of owning an old school car and being apart of a community of collectors. This film will explore old school car collectors connecting from the east to the west coast, the heirlooms passed down from generation to generation, the enthusiasts and admirers, the process of building a car from inside out and maintaining it's functionality, style and other elements that don't immediately meet the eye. We are exploring the day to day lives of old school car owners and contributors to the old school car community through interviews, styled portraiture and organic moments with them. They will capture the ebs and flows of what it means to be an owner of an old school school vehicle, taking a deeper dive into the book instead of judging it by its cover and exploring what doesn't meet the eye.
We are aiming to begin a week long production during the tail end of the old school car show season in September and plan to follow car owners and other contributors to the scene as they gear up for following show season. The money raised will go to compensating the crew and cast involved for their time, travel and accommodations during production. We will also shoot on film and will use the money to cover the cost of the film and to develop. After the week of production we will continue to follow up with our cast on a smaller scale capturing their updates as we edit the initial intake of footage. We will continuously update our supporters and the community as this project continues to grow and evolve.
