The Story

Space, both infinite and limited, is a fascinating concept. Throughout life, we choose who we let into our Space, and unknowingly allow them to shape our future. SPACE explores the reality of that.

When Richard and Jane meet, they are fully independent beings. Both have careers, passions, and interests that they've developed over time. Neither of them have any need to forfeit their Space. But, they do.

Everyone's dreamed of a whirlwind romance. You meet somebody, and you imagine going through your entire lives together. The house, the wedding, the kid. Everything falling into place. That dream is Jane and Richard's reality. A life perfect on paper. All the boxes are checked. 20 years down, eternity to go. They promise to never give each other SPACE, and intend to keep their word. But something goes wrong.

They grow. They change. But as they grow, the SPACE between them remains the same. Up close, the perfect life starts showing its wear. Fights, disagreements, words left unsaid. They pile upon each other, building an invisible, impenetrable wall between them. And soon, that wall is all they see. Jane storms out, and the Space between them is lost.

We watch this slow transformation through the eyes of RJ, their son. The product of their love watching it wilt before his eyes. When it seems irreparable, he becomes the unlikely voice of reason. Richard, moved by his son's words, is spurred to action.

When Richard and Jane meet again, something's changed between them. They're not sure what it is, but they intend to figure it out. For RJ, and for themselves.

SPACE is currently in production. Its final day will be filming soon.

For my second short film endeavor, I'm creating SPACE, a POC-led short film highlighting Black love in its purest form. For too long, we have seen black stories centered around trauma overwhelm our narrative. With SPACE, I hope to be a start of the needed change. I want to help inspire studios, filmmakers, and writers to create stories that shift that narrative. We are more than our struggle.
