Mission Statement

Our senior thesis at Chapman University is the culmination of four years of education and hard work. As a dedicated team, we're crafting the entire filmmaking process from development to the final film. Samuel W. Francis inspires us as we chase our own dreams and invent our own stories.

The Story

SPORK

the ultimate combination of...

A True Story

SPORK was inspired by the real inventor of the original spork, Samuel Ward Francis. He was born to parents in the medical field and even practiced as a doctor while pursuing his passion for inventing. He had many curious inventions but the spork became his legacy.

The 19th Century

The original patent for the spork was filed in 1874. This short film takes place in the late 19th century to remain true to the original time period. Short films set in this time period are rare and not frequently thought about. However, a lot happened in the 19th century. This Victorian period was the age of revolutions! It was a global modernization and at the forefront were brilliant minds that contributed to the world as we know it today.

Innovation

Our team is inspired and motivated by the lessons of SPORK to always use innovation to follow your dreams. There will always be challenges, but by using our creative minds and being resourceful, we could overcome any obstacle. We will go our entire lives constantly learning, much like Samuel W. Francis, but we also have the opportunity to take those ideas and turn them into reality.

Strong Team

Four years of film school in addition to countless hours of experience on professional sets, in development internships, on paid jobs have led to SPORK. This is the senior thesis of multiple Chapman University Dodge College students who have worked tirelessly towards this final film in their educational career. Three hardworking women make up the director/writer/producing team that lead the rest of the crew of ambitious and passionate individuals. Collaboration, diversity, and professional development are values we follow as a team. Learn more about us under the "Team" tab.
