Mission Statement

Black history is under threat—your support helps us fight back! Step Kids is a celebration of Black history through the power of step culture. This project lets Black theatermakers tell our story, our way. Help us spotlight a legacy that deserves to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

The Story

Step Kids is more than a musical—it's a movement. Our mission is to bring to life a powerful, hip hop-infused story that celebrates the resilience, creativity, and community of Black youth through the rich tradition of step dance. Rooted in African heritage and shaped by generations—from the plantations to HBCUs—step is more than rhythm; it's history, identity, and power.

We are currently raising funds to produce a proof of concept video for Step Kids, a dynamic new hip-hop musical that follows a group of seemingly unconnected students who find unity, purpose, and pride through the art of step. This video will serve as a vital first step in bringing the full production to life and sharing the legacy of step with a wider audience.

Your support helps amplify Black voices, preserve cultural history, and inspire a new generation of artists and audiences alike.

Step is Black history. Step is our story. Step into it with us.

Help us create the proof of concept video for Step Kids: The Musical—a powerful new hip-hop musical that celebrates the legacy of step dance and Black culture. Centered on a group of seemingly unconnected students who find unity through their school’s competitive step team, Step Kids honors the deep roots of step from Africa, through the plantations, to HBCUs.
