The Story
"It's like Chekhov, so it's like good and art and whatever, but it's also modern, it's self-aware, and also it is insane."
That's how Stupid F*cking Bird by Aaron Posner was first pitched to me when I sat down to read it for the first time. And it's still kind of the perfect way to pitch what is now one of my favorite plays of all time.
My name is Ethan Pierce, I'm the Artistic Director for Impact Theatre Collective, and we would love for you to join us on our campaign as we move towards producing this incredible show at the all-new Teller Theatre in Denver, Colorado. You've probably not heard of either of those things, so let's talk about them:
Who in the F*ck Are We?
Impact Theatre Collective is a new theatre company in the Denver metro area. We most recently closed Spring Awakening which we performed at Vintage Theatre, and it was fucking awesome. Here's some photos!
Neat, huh? That relevant, riskier, smart, and sharp show really shaped our thinking around what we want to do through Impact. Also, funnily enough, it was a crowdfunded production and a weird, punk take on an old classic of Theatre, so we have some solid experience in this incredibly specific department.
What in the F*ck is this show?
Stupid F*cking Bird is an "adaptation" of Chekhov's The Seagull. Fueled with yearning, angst, and meta-theatrical fits of passion, the show follows the story of a small family of successful artists, all dying for something that they don't have, the one thing that might finally fix them. Can they get the acclaim, the chance, or the love that they would die for? Are they willing to change in order to get it? If they get it, will it finally be enough?
Why is it so f*cking important we do this now ?
Running parallel to this Chekhovian yearning and divine dissatisfaction is a line of questioning as much for all of us as it is for the cast. Why do we still need The Seagull? In the 130 years since it debuted, have we learned anything as people? Like people, can Art change?
We think these questions, and this blending of classic and modern theatre, is the perfect choice not just for today, but to open Shifted Lens Theatre Company's new, incredible performance space; The Storyteller Theatre.
What the f*ck do I have to do with this?
To join us is to join in on supporting the entire Denver Theatre Community. To help support new performance venues in a world where all spaces for all kinds of artists are rapidly going away, and to show that we are ready for this kind of bold works of Theatre.
Plus all of the goodies we've got in store for your donation. Not that you need to be enticed, you beautiful son of a bitch.

How the f*ck does contributing help?

Stupid Fucking Bird is currently in production! We're hard at work with our amazing team to do everything we can to do this show. That said, funds are needed in order to truly bring this to life.
Funds contributed to the show in two major ways:
1. Your contribution makes the show better.
The tricky thing about theatre is you always get the money for the show after it opens. Tricky, huh? But any money we get in advance can immediately go towards things like better costumes, better lights, better set, better props wowza!
2.The Community Ticket Pool
Impact strives to make great theatre economically accessible to all. As such, once the project is fully funded, we will be releasing 50 tickets to the show that are entirely free to a Community ticket pool.
No buts, no explanation needed. Should the project be funded, you reach out to us at [email protected] and let us know you would like to claim one ticket from the Community Ticket Pool, and that's it. Welcome to the show!

About This Team
We are a team of local designers and theatre artists that are passionate about this show and making real, genuine theatre. As young, ambitious artists we strive to make this show as wonderful as we can, with your support.
These are the wonderful collaborators that your pledges will be supporting, and we are all forever grateful for your support.
Our number one team member, has to be Chekhov (and Aaron Posner, of course). Without the transformative work Posner did on Chekhov's classic, we would've have the privilege to engage with this Beautiful Fucking Script, so we owe everything to them both.
As our personal pledge to the project, you'll see our work above to coagulate Chekhov with the spirit of the play. What a beautiful visage.
