Mission Statement

It's important for us to tell stories with complex characters of all genders, races, and types. Because that's what real life is. So that's what we did.

The Story

One couple falling in love while another falls out. Or is it the other way around?

Suicide Date is a heightened, but honest look at relationships, friendships, and getting out of your own way.

When a lot of people read the original script, they thought I had written it about them. That I had based it on their specific relationship. I hadn't. But that made us realize this was actually a story that needed to be told. Just because something isn't factual, doesn't mean it isn't true. We're excited for you to get to experience the film, and we hope you take a little something away from it, too.

In addition to getting this specific story out there, we feel it's vitally important to bring together and encourage awesome, talented, diverse people to create. And then to share those creations with others. Keeping the human dialogue open and inspiring others to do the same. Especially now.

We shot Suicide Date a couple of months ago and we're super jazzed on how it turned out. Everyone did an amazing job. A lot of work went into it and we made sure to pay everyone for their time and talent. Right now we’re entering post-production for it. And we'd love for you check out what we’re doing and contribute if you can. There're some pretty cool perks and we truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support of indie-filmmaking, creativity, and human connection.

This is a project we’re really proud of and excited for. We can’t wait to share it with you and are very grateful for all the incredible, talented people involved. We think the finished product is going to surprise, entertain, maybe even make you think. And at the very least, make you laugh.

And that's not so bad.

Thanks,

Doug & Mike

About This Team

Doug Hurley (Writer/Director) is originally from Kansas, lived in NYC for a while, and now calls Los Angeles home. He's beyond excited at the amazing talent he and Mike were able to gather in front of and behind the camera.

Mike Nelson (Producer) is originally from Indiana, lived in Chicago but has called LA home for the past 13 years. Usually, in front of the camera, Mike is fired up to finally put on his brand new producers cap and to work with an astoundingly talented group of actors and a crew that was one for the ages. Can't do this type of thing without a special team of collaborators and we sure have one helluva team.

Our cast:

 Sarah Stouffer

Sarah Stouffer is best known for her starring role in "Bloomington" a coming of age drama available on Netflix. She can also be seen as a bully with a heart of gold on FreeForm's "Switched at Birth", as a murder on "Bones" and getting murdered (spoiler alert) on "Criminal Minds". If murder isn't your thing, you can catch Sarah around the Holidays in "A Cinderella Christmas" on ION.

 Joel Steingold

Joel studied for two years at the North Carolina School of The Arts in Winston-Salem, N.C. and graduated from Wayne State University with a BFA in Theatre. While in college he spent his summers interning and working at MTV and Nickelodeon to get a well-rounded understanding of how entertainment is brought to the masses. In 2002 Joel moved to LA to focus on a career that has included commercials, hosting, voice-overs, print work, and several roles on television.  Being creatively diverse has become a major asset that allows him to share his talent of acting and performing through different mediums.

   Camille Chen
For as many projects Camille has worked on, (GAME NIGHT, LAW & ORDER, and TEACHERS being some of her faves), she is probably most recognized as "the girl who didn't get the dollar" in the STATE FARM commercial. And she doesn't mind. That commercial aired for four years and she welcomes anyone saying, "gotcha a dollar" to her anytime.
