Mission Statement

Super Syd is inspired by the adventures my sisters and I shared as kids and the bittersweet distance of growing up. We want to bring this story to life because it celebrates courage, creativity, and the deep bond between siblings, while reminding us to cherish imagination and family connection.

The Story

The story opens with 10-year-old Sydney crafting the ultimate movie-night surprise for her older sister, Sloane, who is distracted upstairs packing for college with her boyfriend Josh- aka “the troll,” in Syd’s eyes.

When Sloane bails on movie night to go to Josh’s house, Syd refuses to let their tradition fall apart. She transforms into Super Syd, sneaks out, and scooters all the way to Josh’s place… only to arrive too late. Sloane has already hurried home after realizing Syd is missing.

Back at the house, Syd storms to her room, heartbroken. Sloane follows, this time donning her own forgotten cape, and the sisters finally have the honest heart-to-heart they’ve been avoiding. Syd admits she’s scared of Sloane leaving for college; Sloane reveals she’s scared too.

The film ends with the two reunited, capes on, sharing their long-awaited movie night, side by side.

My Supers!

These are my own super sisters!

Like Sloane, I have younger sisters. Sailor and Kennedy are 13 and 14 and live back home in Texas. When I first moved to NYC, they were still in elementary school, and now they're on the brink of high school. Every time I go home, I’m struck by how much they’ve grown. It often feels like I’m missing pieces of their childhood. And yet, no matter how much time passes, they will always be my little sisters, and I hold both our childhood memories and the ones still to come close to my heart.

Like Sydney, I also have an older sister. My sister Sasha is my best friend, and I can’t imagine growing up alongside anyone else. Recently, she moved to Malaysia for graduate school, and I have never been farther away from her. While I missed her deeply over the holidays, our relationship hasn’t faltered. We stay connected through FaceTime debriefs and an endless exchange of Instagram Reels.

My sisters are the reason Super Syd exists, and I can’t wait to celebrate and represent our sisterhood on the big screen.

Our Previs!

Attached is a pre-visualized scene we shot as both a reference and a sneak peek of the action to come. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!

These four films serve as key inspirations for Super Syd, each influencing a different layer of the story.

Bridge to Terabithia: Encapsulates how children use imagination as an emotional coping mechanism when navigating change.

Ramona and Beezus: A perfect, heartfelt representation of sisterhood. Butting heads is normal, but your sister has your back. Always.

Luca: Explores the fear of losing those closest to you, but learning that distance doesn't diminish love or friendship.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The epic battles, playful camera moves, and bold characters inspire our visual language.

AKA the troll.

Visual Style!

We want Super Syd to represent the joy and excitement of childhood with beautiful bright colors and playful camera movement that reflect the imaginative mind of a child. Think fast whips and zooms during the exciting moments of Syd's adventure. When Syd & Sloane have their heart-to-heart, the camera will slow down. Think light push-ins and level shots representing the sweetness of the moment.
