Sweetie Pie is an EP of 4 songs and 4 videos, exploring the hidden vertigo of growing up, in any stage of life, and feeling like you have to grow up well. By supporting this project, you are helping a group of young artists create something truly sincere in a world that is too often performative.

Mission Statement

Sweetie Pie explores the tension between doing what you want and doing what you are told. Through music and film, this project challenges the myth of “enough” and empowers others to embrace their complexity and contradictions.

The Story

Sweetie Pie: an EP Release

THE PROJECT

Sweetie Pie is an EP inspired by my experience growing up in the quiet South, and taking a sharp turn into a loud, Manhattan adulthood.

It explores the tumultuous cycle of loneliness, perfectionism, and regret that comes with the age of responsibility. It's about an uncomfortable place of being in-between destinations.

That in-between stage is where we confront ourselves, feel incapable, or miss someone we know we shouldn't miss. And most of the time, we pretend we skip over those parts to get to the next big thing. We brag and boast online to avoid the discomfort, appear shiny and relevant to avoid our very normal and human fears.

Sweetie Pie is about the hidden vertigo of growing up, in any stage of life, and feeling like you have to grow up well.

However, this is not a sob story.

This music is about unlearning. It's about living presently in every private moment you wish you didn't have, shaking hands with your fallacies, and letting yourself be vulnerable against all expectation.

WHY ME?

I’m Annie Thomas, an actor, singer, and composer studying at NYU Tisch. Last month I made my Off-Broadway debut as a composer, (and am working on a NEW musical in NYC this summer).

I am so grateful for the rate at which my music support system continues to grow.

But more than that, I am grateful for the level of honesty and connectivity I am finding through my musical voice.

A lot of places in life are performative, but here is the place where I can just share something sincere.

WHY THIS PROJECT?

Brought to you by my little sister and I, we will blend my music and her cinematic expertise to share with you our world-lens.

Sweetie Pie is not just sound, but also a visual world that brings attention to how people are taught to crave endlessly, achieve, produce and perform.

The purpose of this EP is to offer a place of genuine solace from a world of criticism.

I am not creating this to appear bigger or better than I am. I am sharing this with you completely balanced on my middle ground, and putting an honest message out there in service of the kind artist I would like to be.

It's purely a passion project, with a mission to make other people feel a little more comfortable in their own skin.

If that musical sound is something of interest to you, please continue to follow along.

WHERE WE ARE AND WHAT COMES NEXT:

I’m working with a lean but mighty team of NYU filmmakers and creatives. The script is done, the shot list is planned, and we’ve secured the locations. With your support, we’ll shoot in July and finish post-production in August.

If we meet our our goal, I plan to:

  • Film ALL FOUR music videos THIS SUMMER for the EP
  • Pay for PR, playlisting, and professional mixing/mastering
  • Submit Sweetie Pie to festivals, including those featuring narrative music videos ✨

WHAT ELSE YOUR SUPPORT COVERS:

  •  Cinematic locations + compelling set design

  •  Lighting, camera movement, and cinematography

  •  Costume, hair, makeup, and styling

  •  Editing, color correction, sound mix

  •  Meals and transportation for cast + crew

  •  Festival submissions, promotion, and marketing

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN:

If we reach our goals, the sky is the limit!

  •  $4,000 — Full production of all four videos

  •  $4,500 — Proper meals + crew support

  •  $5,000 — Professional post + distribution strategy

  • BEYOND $5,000 — Host a concert AND screening in Manhattan THIS YEAR

Look-book for the first video, Lighthouse.

We are very excited to announce our team and concept has caught the attention of a few key figures in entertainment! We need your help to keep the momentum going!

THE TIMELINE

June: Pre-production, scheduling, first marketing campaigns

July: Film TWO videos

August: Film ONE video and record songs in a professional studio

September: Film the FINAL video, polish songs, start releasing!

October: Private screening events, music promotion, and submission to festivals.
