Mission Statement

BOB TREVINO LIKES IT is a little indie that defied the odds, winning awards at 30+ festivals and the hearts of audiences everywhere. But public awareness and viewership are limited by independent films’ smaller budgets. Help us amplify BOB's message of human connection, and support original stories!

The Story

Hi! I'm Tracie Laymon. Thank you so much for checking out our campaign!

Bob Trevino Likes It is inspired by an unexpected friendship I found online with a stranger who shared the same name as my father’s when I was searching for my dad on Facebook. Through nine years of this stranger’s small, simple acts of kindness and my dad’s name suddenly sending consistently supportive messages like, “Happy birthday!” and “Way to go, kiddo!”, this new friend changed my life, without ever even knowing he had. I found this unusual friendship to be healing, and it helped fill a void in my life. For that reason, it was a story I felt I needed to tell.

Here's the trailer:

Once the screenplay was done and we somehow got it in production (a miracle in itself), Bob Trevino took on a life of its own. I experienced the power and love of chosen family through our incredible cast and crew, who brought so much of themselves to my story... which has now become our story.

As a woman and a member of the LGBTQIA community myself, it was important to me to create a safe and inclusive workplace, as well as push for broader representation on-screen. Getting to feature Latinx stars like Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo, veteran 50+ actors Rachel Bay Jones and French Stewart, and actor and disability advocate Lauren Lolo Spencer, a semi-ambulatory wheelchair user, brought something real and powerful to the script.

So far, we’ve won awards at over 30 film festivals, but I’m especially proud of our wins back in August at the Imagen Awards, founded by Norman Lear and Helen Hernandez, which recognize Latinx excellence in Hollywood.

Barbie and John both won well deserved Best Actor and Best Actress awards, and we also took home Best Feature Film!

Our talented and hardworking crew also comes from a diverse array of backgrounds and cultures, reflecting the real world in which we live. They are now part of my chosen family, and I’m so grateful to the whole team for being on this crazy ride with me and getting us this far. It truly takes a village.

My dream now is to get our little film out to more people. We hear from fans every day, talking about what a healing experience it was for them to watch Bob Trevino Likes It. I believe them, because it was and still is healing for me too. It’s tough competing against big-budget movies for attention. Still, I believe in the power of original stories and the power of audiences, and I know that there are so many movie lovers out there who feel the same way and want more movies like this to get the attention they deserve. The more our film succeeds, the more movies like ours will have a shot at being made in the future.

So -- once we reach our $75K goal, where does the money go?

You may have heard about last year's Best Picture Oscar winner, ANORA, spending $18M on its Oscars campaign -- triple its production budget of $6M. We're happy for Anora and not attempting to raise nearly that much, but it's a great example of how expensive awards submission and marketing can be.

At minimum, a successful awards campaign often requires an Awards Publicist, submission fees, screenings, and/or the costs of individual digital screening platforms for different competitions, marketing and advertising, and transportation and accommodations for talent to special screenings (and, if we're lucky, the award ceremony!). If we make our stretch goal of $150K, that means that we will be able to pursue more awards -- we'll try for all of them that we can! If you see BOB TREVINO LIKES IT mentioned in the entertainment press this fall, you'll know that you played a big part in making that happen!

Whether you’re able to donate to our campaign, tell your friends about our film, follow @bobtrevinolikesit on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, or watch it on digital... thank you for joining #TeamTrevino and supporting our little indie that could.

Sincerely,

Tracie Laymon

Her stories often center around ordinary characters finding themselves in extraordinary circumstances — influenced by her real-life solo emigrations from her hometown of Tokyo to London, Paris, New York, and finally, LA. From a cringey childhood at an all-girls’ Catholic school to working as a pastry chef in Montmartre, getting shot in Hawaii, living above an illegal “sauna”, and surviving a job so bad that Gawker wrote about it, Etta draws from her personal lived experience and believes in representation for all humans in all our weirdness. Etta has been a Finalist for Humanitas New Voices and NBCUniversal Launch, as well as placing in contests like the Austin Film Festival, Final Draft Big Break, Shore Scripts, and many others.
