Mission Statement

Tempest Pointe is a series that doesn't shy away from hard conversations. We dive into the shared human experience of discovering autonomy through the struggles of reclaiming identity, finding self-worth, and revealing one's true self, even when one’s mind doesn’t feel like their own.

The Story

“What the Woods Reveal” is the story of Jessica Martin, and her four college friends visiting their hometown of Tempest Pointe. What starts as a run of the mill hike slowly turns into a nightmare when they find themselves lost and outside of a cabin that Jessica has never seen before. After some back and forth, the group finally decides to stay there for the night. Jessica’s boyfriend, Harry, offers to go find some firewood, but when he returns, it’s clear that Harry no longer inhabits that body.

A month later, Officer Mark Martin decides to take it upon himself to find evidence of his sister and her friends alive. He finds her camera and footage of her chronicling their hike. After hearing a strange noise outside, Mark goes to investigate and doesn’t return…

“Tempest Pointe Exposed” is told through an innovative new mixed-media format that combines qualities of film and theatre, both improvised, to bring you one captivating story. Like Twin Peaks meets Our Town in one show.

How This Works:

Below is a breakdown of how each of our shows works. We are crowdfunding for the pilot episode of “The Reveal” Act: "What the Woods Reveal".

We have a lot of BIG plans for Tempest Pointe Exposed past this pilot episode. We've outlined a 15 episode run with 3 thematic acts.

Proof of Concepts:

What makes people want to invest their hard-earned money? Proof that something works! Lucky for you, we have proof!

At the end of last year, we met with Thunderfoot Studio and discussed producing a show in their space, which included an LED light wall. Tempest Pointe Exposed came from our desire to utilize that light wall and creatively combine film and theatre.

So on February 28th of this year, the first iteration of “What The Woods Reveal” was performed live in front of a SOLD OUT audience.

The performance included both live improvised scenes performed in front of the light wall, which created the backgrounds for said scenes. Interspersed between those improvised scenes, the LED light wall became the audience's view into the world as it screened our filmed scenes.

The initial show came together on a budget of $50. Everything, prop and art-wise, was handmade and practical. This is helped by having an amazing team with skills in so many different areas (shoutout Nic Bowdler, who plays Harry, for making our foam log prop!)

Despite the small budget, we've been able to do some really creative and high-concept episodes. We also produced a second "proof of concept" entitled “What The Mind Reveals” which is the second episode in the overarching series. This episode took a different approach in its setting and filming.

Budget:

With our two proof of concept experiences, we know EXACTLY what needs to be improved. Our goal is to completely streamline the technical side of Tempest Pointe Exposed so that we can present a polished experience to an in-person and online audience. Which is why we are seeking the RODEcaster Video S All-in-One Video Console. With this console, we are able to seamlessly switch from a theatrical background to a filmed video and back without breaking the audience's immersion.

This project has also benefited from incredible and dedicated actors and an AMAZING venue who have given their time to this project. They have truly made this project what it is, and we would not be anywhere without their support. Which is why we are seeking this money to be able to pay them for their hard work and belief in this project.

Below you will see a breakdown of the proposed budget.

Goals:

Right now, we perform Tempest Pointe Exposed in Athens, Georgia, at Thunderfoot Studio. And with your money, we will be able to continue bringing quality shows to our local community. But we love this project and this format and believe it deserves a bigger audience, which is why past producing this pilot, we hope to expand our capabilities to be able to live stream the show to potential audience members across the nation.

On top of live streaming, we want to perform/ show Tempest Pointe Exposed at film festivals, which the pilot you are helping fund will make its debut at the Athens Film Festival kickoff/ volunteer event.

Other festivals that we would like to perform/ show this project at include the Cucalorus Film Festival and the PEACH Theatre & Film Intl. Festival.

Team:

The main production team includes Tim Pruitt and Ansleigh Funk as co-creators, directors, and producers.

RODECaster Video S All-in-One Video Console

Costs $800

This will streamline the live tech aspect of our show and allow us to deliver a polished final product.

16TB External Hard Drive

Costs $450

Each show generates about 400 GBs of footage. This will increase our post-production capabilities tenfold.

Venue Rental

Costs $250

Thunderfoot Studio graciously let us use the venue for free to perform our “proof of concepts” and we want to ensure they’re taken care of!

Actor Payment

Costs $1,800

Our actors volunteered their time to help us make the “proof of concepts” and we want to make sure they get paid for their time this time!

Crew

Costs $475

This show requires a small crew for the live show such as someone on lights, audio, & video!

Costumes/Props

Costs $250

For the “proof of concepts” everyone’s costumes came from their own closet & we’d like a little wiggle room to play with in that regard!

Production Team Story:

Tim Pruitt started Take This! in 2021 in Dahlonega, Georgia and at that time it only consisted of Take This! Comedy, which was focused on short-form improv and sketch comedy.

Ansleigh Funk joined Take This! just a few months after it began.

With Tim’s background in theatre and improv and Ansleigh’s film degree, we quickly started collaborating and creating projects that combined improv, live theatre, and film. We created a longform format called “improv movie parodies” and began producing and performing every month. In the summer of 2022, we started developing our improvised mockumentary-style YouTube series Take This! The Show! That is where the birth of the second wing of Take This!, Take This! Films, started.

As Take This! grew and expanded into Athens, Georgia, we were always looking to innovate and change the improv genre. We created quite a few original formats, our favorite being Blank & Me, which showcases an actor's filmography through an improvised journey performed by only two actors, us. During this time, our love for experimental theater really started to grow, which led to the end of 2025 where we started our third wing of Take This!, Take This! Theatre, which focuses on producing original live theatrical productions.

As of today, we have produced over 200 different improv shows all across Georgia and we are just getting started. Which brings us to this project, Tempest Pointe. We truly believe this project and format is a culmination of everything we have been building towards the past five years. We have already workshopped and produced the first two episodes and we have big plans for the overarching series. Tempest Pointe is more than just a TV show or theater production, it’s experimental and strange and full of human emotion.
