Mission Statement

This film aims to champion women filmmakers through a raw exploration of mental health, unexpected friendships, and the relationships we have with ourselves. Written, directed, produced, shot, and starring women; it's a film by women, for everyone willing to hear us.

The Story

Temptress is an entirely female-led film about self-deception, female friendships, and mental health. The film follows Nikki, a driven business owner who struggles with mental health issues -- depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar 2, dermatillomania -- and is actively trying to balance her business and save her marriage. When she forgets her medication one day and has to pick it up from her husband before his dinner meeting, she finds herself in the restaurant bathroom desperately trying to "keep it together" when the picture-perfect Olivia enters. Like any two women in a public bathroom do, the two form an unexpected and unlikely friendship. However, when they exit the bathroom real life comes crashing in on them and throws into question the bond they've just formed, forcing Nikki to decide her reality.

Temptress represents both a deeply intimate and heartbreakingly universal truth for so many women. Greta Gerwig wrote it best: "It is literally impossible to be a woman...like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong." The women behind Temptress are no exception to this truth. Ten years in the making, this film represents an amalgamation of experiences that so many of us go through: mental health struggles, marital ultimatums, and how to be "perfect" when all you really need is to just fall to pieces for a bit. It is a film about women, by women, for everyone willing to hear us.

Okay, you caught us -- we didn't actually meet each other in the bathroom. It was a little luck and a twist of fate that brought the "Temptress Trio" together! It's a tale as old as time: Zora meets Jill when she sits at her bar, Jill is in acting class with Marissa, Marissa meets Zora at the same bar. Who needs romance when you have a tale that magical? Now, you get to meet us and some of the rest of the gang, too!

Listen, it is hard to #girlboss this filmmaking thing when you have big studio dreams on an indie bank account budget. We want you to be absolutely sure that your investment is in good hands, so we are aiming to be totally transparent about how we will use your pledges. Below is a breakdown of how we will utilize the funds we receive. Fifty-five percent of our budget will go towards paying our crew (Did I mention we have a nearly all-female crew? I think it might have come up once or twice). Fifteen percent of our budget will go towards paying our small cast, with the aim to hire at least one nonbinary actor to play one of the four roles in the script. Twelve percent will go towards securing locations, including the gorgeous historic Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin. Finally, the remaining eighteen percent will go towards other production costs including feeding everyone, a picture car, equipment rental, insurance, and production design. If we manage to come in under budget, we will be making a donation to a local mental health organization whose mission is geared specifically towards providing resources to women in need. This wouldn't be possible without you, and we are so thankful that you are partnering with us to make this film happen!

It is important to us that we are supporting the local community as much as possible with our production. We will be shooting over the course of four days and intend to utilize three iconic Austin locations: the historic Driskill Hotel, Lenoir, and the Tigress Pub. We are working with an entirely local crew and have also joined forces with a local film non-profit, Hyperreal Film Club, to cross-promote and bring their mission to mix cult classic cinema with Austin-made films to the forefront of our audience. Additionally, we have partnered with over forty local businesses in the same manner to help drive customers to their businesses! Filmmaking is nothing if not a team sport, and we mean it when we say we are all in on our community.

Temptress is a non-union production. We stand in solidarity with SAG and the WGA in their fight for all creatives so that we may continue to work, thrive, and pursue our dreams passionately and relentlessly. Period.

We've all been there before. You're in public and you have to...well, you know. So you go to the bathroom and as soon as you sit down in the stall you find yourself surrounded by messages telling you how beautiful and amazing you are, and how you should definitely not text that ex-boyfriend (you know the one). We swear, some of the best compliments we've ever gotten have come from bathroom stalls. Well, this is sort of like that! Sort of. In order to reach our goal, we need to spread our reach far and wide, and we need you to help us with that! We are asking that you like, follow, and share our campaign by sending sweet scribbles to your contacts via social media, email, word of mouth, skywriting....any way you want!
