Mission Statement

Our crew consists of young artists who have met through and built a strong online community. We've all made individual strides in our work, but collaborating on this would be a massive step for each of us. With Ten Dates, you're not only funding a film, but a future for multiple creatives.

The Story

Ten Dates follows Anna, a woman in her 20s who has just recently moved to Boston and is participating in the dating scene by going on a series of dates. Specifically, ten dates with ten different men. We follow her from men’s apartments to nights out at a restaurant to mini golfing or the movies. Her big obstacle is the modern dating scene, whether it’s the man she is on a date with or that spark just not being there. A notable feature that sets this story apart is the structure with which it is told. We learn about Anna and the men she is dating along the way, as we’re thrown right into the middle of the dates, picking up details as they’re revealed naturally through her experiences. The entirety of the film does not follow a conventional narrative structure, but even within the dates there is no beginning, middle, and end, only sections of the date that we are observers of.

The written narrative structure is not the only stylistic choice being implemented. The ten dates will all be ten minutes in length. Each of them will be made up of static shots with several long takes. There will be a minimal amount of shots on each date, only changing perspective with a change in scenery or location. Because of the nature of the film, these long takes will be dialogue-heavy, with actors not only putting plenty of dialogue to memory but also improvising to match the flow and feel of a real date.

Currently, the first draft of our project has been written and we're working on revising it until we've put a good final copy forward for shooting. This campaign will help us take the next steps in the process toward meeting our desired shooting date on time. Our planned schedule is to finish revisions on the script during the length of the campaign, then search for actors after our campaign is over so that we know we have the budget necessary for the talent we require. Once that's accomplished we will prepare and be ready for our planned August shooting date.

After we've shot the film, we intend to go the festival route which could then lead to distribution for the project. If the film doesn't get picked up to be distributed we would release it online for our audience.

If this campaign were to take us over our desired budget, the extra money would be spent on a number of things. For one, it would help us submit the film to festivals. It would also help provide us with flexibility when shooting since we're planning on a very tight shoot, as well as go toward efforts in the post production process that allows us to create the best version of the film possible.

We’re asking for your support to help us put together our first feature-length film. We’ve filled this project with unique characters who will make you laugh or cringe in embarrassment. But our protagonist, who has to deal with all the awkwardness of modern dating and the vulnerability of putting yourself out there in search of something real, is the heart of the film. Her struggles are relatable and you can’t help but root for her.

Your support will help actualize this story that we feel could mean a lot to people. It’s an ambitious project and it won’t work without quality actors who, as mentioned, will be tasked with a lot. The focus of the money we raise will be on those actors. It’s not a film that we could see made without the help of people who are passionate about independent and experimental storytelling. We’re confident in our vision and all we need now is the support of people who want to see us succeed in this journey.

Location Budget

Costs $3,000

The goal is to shoot on location for every shot. Since the shots themselves will be limited a great location can really change a scene.

Cast Budget

Costs $20,000

The film will involve a lot of actors. With long takes and minimal editing there will be no hiding in the performances. Very essential.

Crew Budget

Costs $5,000

Very small skeleton crew that deserves to be compensated for their hard work.

Food/Misc

Costs $2,000

We of course will need to feed our actors! A great performer is a well fed performer!
