The Story
As seen on The Scream List

Terms & Conditions is based on "The Devil's Code" by Frank M. Taylor. A lifelong friend, Frank and I were chatting about some of our experiences in tech and as we riffed, the idea that would become this story was born.

Look Book Title Page

When cutting-edge naiveté meets ancient chaos, we all win.
Terms & Conditions is the story of an incel messing with things he can't possibly understand and finally (because it's fiction), paying the price for his hubris.

The inspirations for Rob, our douchey techbro.
We all know the type — the guy who thinks tech will fix everything, including that "stupid girl" at work who friend-zoned him.

Creepy arcana pages that Rob and his AI agent, ChadPDG, should not be trying to read...
Only this bro uses his tech to modernize something he has no business messing with, and winds up summoning a demon with a little panache.

Inspirations for our genderqueer demon's wardrobe.
But more than just being the netherworld's most attractive genderqueer demon, they're here to punish people who truly need it like this lonely, out-of-his depth developer.
This short and it's punchline conclusion will leave the audience satisfied and laughing that justice has been served in the most chaotic and campy way possible.

Cast and crew of One Night Cherub, including several returning to work on Terms & Conditions
Most importantly it's an opportunity for a group of (mostly) Austin-based creatives to make something distinctly their own and start building an audience for their particular brand of comedy, horror, and queerness in a world that desperately needs more of all three.
For some of us, this is our first big project. For others who've got a resume a mile long, they're onboard because the vibes and the script are right. But all of us want to make the art we want to see in the world, and we're excited — with your help — to do just that!

Why we need your help
Terms & Conditions is nearly done with pre-production. We've essentially done everything we can without making financial commitments.
When you back this film, you're helping us wrap up pre-production and move into shooting the film early in 2026. Let's break it down so you can see exactly where the money goes:
Y'all don't even know how many spreadsheets go into pre-production.
Pre-production
While we have commitments from our crew, we have not cast the film yet, and I haven't asked anyone to work on the project without pay other than myself and the producers.
Once we get the greenlight, I will lock in our crew with contracts and initial payments. They'll then jump into action breaking down the script and setting the shooting schedule (1st AD), developing the shotlist (Cinematographer and myself), casting our two roles (Producers and myself), starting production design in earnest (Production Designer and myself), and beginning the demon design (Makeup FX artist and myself).
This will, in quick order, bring us to production.
A few of the returning crew members from One Night Cherub setting up their next shot.
Production
With your support, our two-day shoot will happen in late January or February in 2026, turning my house into a film set for week or so. There is so much that will go into transforming our spare bedroom into a creepy man-child's lair before shooting the film and then undoing all that work when we're done.
Paying these incredible artists for their hard work building sets, bringing our characters to life, and capturing the needed footage and sound to bring Terms & Conditions to life is where the bulk of our budget will go.

An actual photo of our editor Ashley Lynch's edit bay.
Post-production
We've got an incredible post team lined up and ready to turn raw footage and sound recordings into a finished film.
We'll also need things like hard drives and software licenses, and with your help, we can afford to both pay the artists and provide them the resources they need to do their best work.

It actually never looks like this anymore when you're projecting a movie. Isn't stock photography fun?

Festival run, promotion, and distribution
We've got big plans for Terms & Conditions! We're looking forward to connecting with film festival programmers and getting our hard work in front of audiences around the world.
In order to do that effectively, we'll need to make sure we've got money for festival entry fees, a publicist and publicity materials, and travel costs for the director and our producers to our world premiere, wherever that may be.
And finally, our gifts to you!
Gee, is that it?
Of course not! In addition to everything above, we're also making commitments to our backers at various levels for both screening and physical rewards. Once we have a finished film and a clear idea of our festival schedule, we'll be able to start fulfilling the rewards that need to wait until we've had our premiere. This includes scheduling and hosting our virtual and live screenings.

So, whaddaya say?
Want to be part of making a piece of fun, queer genre movie making? Want to give a big middle finger to AI and the tech oligarchs that keep pushing it on us? Want to see a super hot gender queer demon on screen?
Whatever your reasons for backing our film, we'd love to have you along for the ride. Check out our Wishlist to see some specific things your money can go toward and the incentives we're kicking your way.
No matter what you're able to give, just know all of us working on Terms & Conditions will be eternally grateful!

A Texas-native and seasoned actor, John's addition to Terms & Conditions promises to bring depth and pathos to a character you're going to love to hate.
"The Demon": Lana Dandachli
Lana Dandachli is an Austin-based actress trained in the Meisner technique at Playhouse ATX. With years of experience in acting and modeling, she has appeared in several film projects as well as numerous commercial campaigns.
Her work is rooted in emotional authenticity, presence, and fearless vulnerability. Drawn to character-driven storytelling, Lana brings depth and intention to roles that explore ambition, resilience, and human complexity. She is actively pursuing film work while continuing her ongoing training.
The Crew
Our crew is an incredible collaboration between experienced professional artists who I've worked with previously and all believe in making the movies we want to see in the world. That is to say weird, queer art with a bold opinion that leaves you smiling and wanting more. Let's meet them!
Writer/Director: Kev Dooley
I guess we'll start with me? I've wanted to make movies since I was young, but there was always something or someone telling me I should do something more responsible. Pardon my french, but that's just fucking stupid.
In 2024, I found myself working as a production designer on a short film for my friend (and producer of this short) Austin King. It was an ambitious three-day shoot with multiple practical effects, and that whole crew busted their ass to make something campy and queer. I've never been more energized or inspired to finally do the thing.
I never quit writing and there's a library's worth of scripts in various stages of completeness in my cloud account, but as I was chatting with the crew, one idea kept connecting with them... so here we are, all sticking around for another chance to make a little horror comedy that we think has something to say.
Executive Producer: Austin King
Austin King is a filmmaker and festival programmer in the Austin, TX film community. He screened for the SXSW features program in 2021-22 and was Assistant Programmer for aGLIFF in Austin in the same time period. Producer: Ann Dooley
Ann Dooley is a passionate development professional, committed to amplifying and preserving the arts in Austin, TX. She brings more than a decade of wildly successful fundraising experience to Terms & Conditions.
She also happens to be a big believer in the project and a huge personal fan of one crew member in particular (we're not saying who)!
1st Assistant Director: Rebecca Mooney
Rebecca Mooney is a video editor at heart who realized that she is addicted to the chaos of running a set and being in the midst of production. She has experience in producing, assistant directing, and script supervising. Her favorite thing about being on set is keeping all of the pieces moving while lifting spirits and making sure everyone is taking care of each other. Her guiding philosophy as a 1st AD is that safety of the crew is paramount and never has to be sacrificed to fulfill the director's vision.
Director of Photography: Jimmie Kadaver
Jimmie Kadaver is an Austin-based filmmaker and lifelong fan of genre cinema. After studying film at UT, he honed his eye filming performers from RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, The Voice, and the web series Camp Wannakiki.
Jimmie’s first project as DP, M is for Mindmeld (2013), was acquired by Drafthouse Films and included in The ABCs of Death 2.5 (2016) and his first feature, Cain Came Home, premiered at Amazing Fantasy Fest in September 2025.
Editor: Ashley Lynch
Ashley Lynch is an award winning post-production professional in Vancouver, BC and the owner of Gingerbreadgirl Post.

She also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Technical Theater from Ball State University where she focused on Costume and Make Up Design.
Composer: Bennett Mains
