The Story
The Adventures of Black People is a sci-fi suspense anthology that puts Black characters at the center of surreal, supernatural, and speculative worlds. Each episode explores a new story where Black folks are everything we’re rarely allowed to be on screen: aliens, vampires, gorgons, mermaids, telepaths, and more.

Blending genre, satire, and sharp social commentary, the series imagines what happens when Black people step into extraordinary realities, and take up space in dimensions that were never built with us in mind. Some episodes are funny. Some are terrifying. All of them are rooted in truth.
We’ve already filmed three episodes. Now we’re asking for your support to complete post-production and continue telling bold, imaginative stories that reflect the depth and range of Black identity far beyond what we’ve been allowed to play.

We’re passionate about the stories we’re telling. We are skilled at working with low budgets and the original intention for the show was to create space for our peers to learn and grow in the roles they were familiar with and other roles that they maybe were unfamiliar with. This series has been the foundation of our growth as filmmakers, and your donation will ensure we’re able to expand our abilities and visual reach.
This series is dear to us and already has a fan base which can make it easier to distribute. We have already put time, effort, and money into this project over the last three years. It’s fun and easy to create. The world has no rules so we are always thinking up new stories. We have a collaborative community of writers that have already started to help us develop a second season.

Black people are still learning to see ourselves as multifaceted and this show highlights black people from every background. The supernatural aspect is just creating a mode for escapism. Take Ryan Coogler's Sinners, for example. Sinners has a great cultural impact on our community after it’s release, and I feel, what better time than now to release this show on the heels of it's height. We’ve been working on this show for a few years now, and I feel that now is the time for people to get inspired by what we’ve been working on.
This series is an anthology that explores black life rooted in fantasy and sci-fi. What would a clan of black vampires look like? What sort of life would a young black teleporter lead? How do mermaids REALLY fit into the cultural background of African descendants?
Set in present day, we explore a world where our universe meets another thought to be nonexistent. Each episode will follow a character as they discover they themselves are super abled, or encounter a person of magical descent. It will have the visual style of “Atlanta” and Season 2 of "Master of None" while borrowing inspiration from "Random Acts of Flyness."

We’re currently in development through September 2024. From January to July 2025, we’ll move into pre-production to finalize scripts, casting, and logistics. Production kicks off in September 2025, followed by post-production from October to December 2025. We plan to self-distribute in January 2026 through platforms like Filmhub so audiences can experience the series directly.

Directors Statement
I love weird. I've always gravitated to the sci-fi and fantasy genres because it gives us a moment to escape from the ordinary, and imagine new worlds. When creating this series, my hope for it was that it inspired other black creators to tell stories that we don't often hear from each other. Also, because of my acting background, I felt I should create black characters that weren’t stereotypical. When you watch this series, I hope you laugh and relate to these unconventional characters, because your entertainment means that we get to continue telling these weird stories.
Thanks, Tina.

About This Team
BRAYVHOUSE is a independent production company creating bold, genre-bending film and television. Originally founded in 2020 as Mitchell Media Team, the company rebranded in 2022 to reflect a bigger vision: to build original, high-quality stories that challenge expectations and center underrepresented voices.
Founded by Kaleb and Tina Mitchell two actors who started making reels out of necessity. BRAYVHOUSE was born from the frustration of having no creative control. Now, they write, direct, and produce work that puts that control firmly back in their hands.
BRAYVHOUSE projects include the sci-fi suspense anthology The Adventures of Black People, the Southern gothic coming-of-age series Westwood, and the suspense comedy Window Shopping. Whether it’s speculative fiction or grounded drama, BRAYVHOUSE tells stories that are visually rich, culturally specific, and always brave.
Tina McCoy-Mitchell is a Meridian, Mississippi born writer, actor, and Director dedicated to telling bold, character-driven stories that reflect the complexity of Black identity. After years of watching sci-fi and fantasy without ever seeing herself represented, she created The Adventures of Black People a surreal, genre-bending anthology that puts Black characters at the center of supernatural and speculative worlds.
Tina is also a co-founder of BRAYVHOUSE, the independent production company she started with her husband Kaleb to take creative control of their careers and build the stories they wish existed. Most recently, she was featured in Tyler Perry’s Straw on Netflix.
Whether on screen or behind it, Tina is passionate about building expansive, imaginative worlds where Black people get to be everything powerful, strange, funny, flawed, and unforgettable.
Kaleb Mitchell is an Atlanta-based director, producer, and actor originally from Louisiana. A graduate of the University of Mississippi’s B.F.A.
