The Filipino Goodbye
Edison, New Jersey | Film Short
Drama, Shorts Program
Zach Javier broke away from his tight-knit family, as many college kids do, and is now back with a partial dream and a whole lot of questions. This film is for all the creative 20-somethings who can't catch a break, and the awkward conversations we've had along the way.

The Story
Director Statement
Two things sparked the creation of the film. It was my friend's poem, The Filipino Goodbye, and my professor's saying, "Write what you know."
The Filipino Goodbye is based on some parts of my experiences growing up being Filipino American and attending Filipino family parties, feelings that I felt coming back home from college time to time, and addresses topics that are prevalent in the Filipino community that go unspoken such as generational trauma to toxic behaviors and gossip.
With your support, I'm working with talented creatives and friends to tell a story I hold close to my heart. I hope this story can resonate with people, whether Filipino or not, and create a conversation about closing the gap between generational trauma. Your support will help me and my team create a world and story that we hope people in our community are proud to see themselves in.
Previous Works
A majority of my work consists of Asian American narratives that highlight the nuance of the 1st generation experience. Both Validation (2021), and BLINK (2021), have received notoriety in the community as well as an official selection at Silicon Valley Asian Pacific FilmFest.

What we need and how people can help
No amount is too small to support our team of passionate creators. Whether through donations, sharing with friends and family, or even reposting our mission on social media, your attention and consideration will help us reach the audience this film deserves!

Break Down on Expenses
Seed & Spark requires that we raise at least 80% of our goal for the project to be funded. We must reach this goal in 30 days or we don't receive any funds at all.
By reaching our fundraising goal of $5000, we will be able to accurately dress up our locations, secure quality camera and lighting gear, and most importantly feed our incredible cast and crew!
Our funds will also be utilized in our post-production process to help bring this film to life! Any additional donations will also be worked into compensating our actors and crew members. We wouldn't be here without your generous and kind support!
Plan and Timeline
March 8-11th : Production weekend
We film in Edison, New Jersey for four days surrounded by our incredible tri-state area crew and cast.
March 31 - April 29th : Post Production Editing
Our talented post-production team will retrieve the footage and begin the fabulous stage of editing! First an initial assembly cut and first draft will be created to ensure story structure. Then it will be sent in for sound, color, vfx, titles, and music scoring. After numerous rounds of discussions the film will be ready for Montclair's Senior Showcase!
May 11th : Festival Run and Distribution
After a successful showcase, Ray and the team will carry the film through its festival run! The net will be cast amongst Asian American centric film festivals, both national and internationally. We hope to spread the films message throughout the Filipino American community and create discussion through screenings, ideally in New York and New Jersey.
