Story
Mission Statement
This film is about imperfection. We are including a cast and crew of real, everyday people of different ages, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientation, weight, physical features, and other characteristics. We like diversity and uniquenes because we’re imperfect humans and we’re all in this together.About The Project
There are nearly 1.1 million influencers on social media and a lot of them promote the idea that being less than fabulous will condemn every human being on the planet to a mediocre existence. Research has shown that the more a person uses social media, the greater their likelihood of experiencing depression caused by comparison with the extremely curated content found online. Is perfection real or is it a made-up story that we create to be loved and accepted? Is striving for it worthy or is it just another form of addiction?
WHAT IF EMBRACING IMPERFECTION IS INSTEAD THE WAY TO LIVE A FULFILLED LIFE?
My name is Coxy, I'm the writer/director of this film and I am imperfect.I’m not a stereotyped beauty, I’m not famous and I don’t have thousands of followers on Instagram. I was born in Italy and raised in a modest working-class family by a single mom. Many times, I’ve been considered an outsider and felt invisible in the world because I didn’t belong to the right group of people. I’ve worked in the fashion industry for a long time and in that world, I’ve witnessed many young girls and women fall into depression because the industry was shaming their appearance or telling them they were not good enough. So one day, I decided to create something that could tell the world a different story.
Anna is an eclectic woman in her 30s. One morning, the radio wakes her up to a show called “Living the Perfect Life.” The ideal pitched by the radio host is far away from Anna’s own existence which has always been on an emotional roller coaster, and it makes her feel like an outsider. To escape her frustration, she dives into her imaginary world until a phone call from her friend Jean brings her back to reality. Jean is a funny and intellectual man who has a crush on Anna, he always challenges her to observe things from a different perspective and encourages her to believe in herself. The two friends meet in the city, a place where the rest of humanity is absent from reality and lost on a device in a virtual world. While walking and talking, Anna and Jean contemplate what’s happening around them, and reflect on what is meaningful in their lives. Their conversation brings back Anna’s memories from the past. She sees them as if they were a film projected on a screen and relives all the feelings that have shaped her story: love, anger, joy, grief, foolishness, fear…
FRAMES FROM THE STORYBOARD
An homage to the French New Wave and to Italian Neorealism in a contemporary set up. A strong visual style and a poetic narrative with a realistic approach. Digital mixed with film to strengthen the contrast between perfection and imperfection. Natural Lighting to achieve an authentic and realistic look. Fresh Camera angles to enhance facial expressions, feelings or memories in their comic or dramatic aspects. Original music score and sound design in a mix of contemporary and retro-inspired beats. Researched editing to give a rhythm to the whole piece.
Directors like Federico Fellini, Agnes Varda, Jean Luc Godard and films like Bicycle Thieves, 8 1/2, Breathless, The 400 Blows, and lately the beautiful Roma by Alfonso Cuarón are masterpieces that started a movement and narrate the stories of people that society often relegates to the background. They explore human beings, their needs, their alienation from society and the struggle to communicate or speak their voice.
We live in an era where we are more connected than ever with technology yet we’re disconnected on a human level. We’re interested in the lives of celebrities and influencers, yet we’re blind to the lives of people we cross every day in the street.
THE IMPERFECT PICTURE shines a light on the outsiders. Our desire for this film is to create a space in time where we can stop, reconnect with one another and share our story.
In his 2019 Oscar speech for Best Director, Alfonso Cuarón said, “Cinema has the ability to teach us how to see and when we choose to see people that we normally don’t, we begin to acknowledge their very existence.”We are an imperfect but extremely talented team whose passion and love for filmmaking goes beyond everything. We love to tell good stories and we are interested in people and human emotions. Nice to meet you, and if you want to read more about us, click this link or on THE TEAM tab at the top of this page.
SURPRISE, SURPRISE!
Neorealism and New Wave directors would often cast emerging or unknown actors and people from the street and for our casting, we've decided to adopt the same philosophy. We want our characters to be real, relatable and imperfect and we want to shine a light on extraordinary talents. So stay tuned! We'll be announcing our CAST throughout the campaign.
We have an amazing team, we have a script, a storyboard, a shot list a production plan and we're looking to raise money that will help us in securing the resources that we need to produce this film. Only with your help, can we bring this little Art piece to life!
The funds we’ll raise will serve us to cover:
A FAIR AND WELL DESERVED FEE TO ALL CAST & CREW INVOLVED: Filmmaking is our greatest passion and we love doing it, this fee won’t make us rich but at least it will recognize our work and help us to pay part of the bills at the end of the month!
GRIP, LIGHTING, PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES.
16mm FILM GEAR, ROLLS, DEVELOPMENT & SCAN: There is a whole part of the film, related to Anna’s memories that we’d love to shoot on 16mm Film. This is a very important element because it will enhance the contrast between the new world and the old world.
