The Story

After 18 years growing up together, identical twins Terry and Jack Mullany went their separate ways for college (Terry to USC, Jack to NYU). Each developed their own voice while soaking up the vibrant creative scenes of LA and NYC. But their best work has always happened when they collaborate.
The Intimacy Coordinator marks the official launch of their joint filmmaking journey and the inaugural project for the Mullany Brothers.
Inspired by absurdist cult comedies like Wet Hot American Summer, I Think You Should Leave, and Punch Drunk Love, The Intimacy Coordinator tackles loneliness, identity, ego, and social awkwardness. Think Arrested Development meets Theatre Camp: Sharp, awkward, and spirited. A story that doesn’t chase polish or prestige but rather showcases the strange, raw, wonderfully imperfect mess of being human. A flawed character meets two even more pretentious, self righteous messes. A quiet, collective acknowledgment that we’re all just doing our best, while failing in ridiculous ways.
Motivated by the scrappy, early-career work of the Duplass Brothers and Jon Favreau, the Mullany Brothers are embracing the do it yourself spirit. This project is about learning, carrying each other towards the proverbial independent film promised land, and telling each other to stop waiting and just make the damn thing.
Beyond personal growth, The Intimacy Coordinator creates vital opportunities for post-grad creatives eager to work in an industry that often feels stalled. It’s a project born from love, frustration, and the desire to create without compromise. It's one that celebrates independent storytelling and uplifts a community of emerging artists.
With three more short films in development and a scrappy production schedule that stretches through next year, this is just the beginning. The film is aiming for a festival run and a premiere on indie favorite NoBudge.

Randy is a down-on-his-luck stoner, struggling to move on after heartbreak and spiraling through life without direction. While wallowing in his misery at a park, he misinterprets a flyer seeking an “Intimacy Coordinator” for a local theater production as a sexual opportunity. Motivated by his mother’s voicemail urging him to get out of his slump and the prospect of “intimacy,” Randy eagerly responds to the flyer, believing it will lead to a steamy adventure.

Enter Tom and Carrie, two eccentric theater directors obsessed with their low-budget production of Rent. In their conversation riddled with accidental innuendos, Randy hears exactly what he wants to hear, while Tom and Carrie are simply thrilled to find someone willing to work for twelve bucks an hour. Neither party realizes the ticking time bomb of misunderstanding that’s about to ignite.

As Randy prepares for what he believes will be an unforgettable, life changing experience, the stage is set for an absurd, high stakes disaster. The Intimacy Coordinator is a bold, offbeat comedy about miscommunication, desperation, and unexpected consequences.

With your contributions helping us to get to production, we aim for THE INTIMACY COORDINATOR to be represented at various genre festivals and screenings in the 2025-2026 festival season. We also intend to secure public distribution through platforms like NoBudge, Short of the Week, and Vimeo. There are many talented artists involved and we look to gain a wide audience for our comedy tale. He grew up singing and performing in musicals, a passion he continued while studying at the University of Southern California. Throughout his time at USC and in MA, Terry starred in theatrical productions including Spring Awakening, Dogfight, Avenue Q, and Newsies. During his junior year, he landed his first film role in Peter Farrelly’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever, acting alongside Russell Crowe and Zac Efron. He will star in Sidelined 2: Intercepted, the sequel to Tubi’s most popular original film Sidelined: The QB and Me, and recently wrapped production as the lead in the independent sci-fi feature The Extinction Rule, shot in Oklahoma City.
Recently, Terry began developing his own projects, frequently collaborating with his twin brother, Jack Mullany.
