Mission Statement

Miko Peled was born in the heart of the Zionist movement. But it wasn’t until an unspeakable tragedy lead him into Palestine that he discovered what it truly means to be an Israeli. The Israeli chronicles Miko’s remarkable ideological journey from Zionist to Palestinian rights advocate.

The Story

For Miko Peled, the founding of Israel was, quite literally, a family affair. His grandfather was an original signer of the Israeli declaration of independence. His father, Matti Peled, was a celebrated general who fought in the Arab-Israeli wars of 1948 and 1967, and helped build the IDF. Growing up in Jerusalem, the story of Zionism was conveyed to Miko by those who lived it.

On September 4th 1997, Miko’s 13-year old niece Smadar was killed in a Hamas suicide attack in Jerusalem. Israeli politicians cynically used her death to call for intensified attacks on Palestinian territories, while the family pleaded for an end to bloodshed. This event blew Miko’s world apart and set him on a path that would challenge his most deeply held beliefs.

This documentary explores Miko’s transformation, his activism, and his vision for a just future in Israel/Palestine. Through interviews, archival footage, and on-the-ground storytelling, this film humanizes the Palestinian struggle and challenges audiences to rethink their assumptions about the conflict. This film comes at a critical moment in the discourse around Israel/Palestine. Those who may be on the fence or uninformed on the subject will find his personal perspective illuminating; someone who has lived their life as a Zionist and now works tirelessly as a Palestinian rights activist.
