Mission Statement

In the 90's, indie filmmaking electrified the world and shook the grip of the Hollywood system. Today episodic storytelling has the opportunity to do the same thing. Democratized TV: intimate, offbeat stories given equal platform for voice and visibility. All it takes is us coming together to do it.

The Story

This isn’t your typical Seed & Spark campaign.

Our TV series has already been created.

Think of this as pre-buying the series before it's released – to see the show early & be a part of our journey.

Rather than give away the power to big distributors and suits, we want to bring our series directly to YOU.

Where a typical crowdfunding campaign is about $ raised, this is about viewership, getting the show out there and showing that indie TV can work. So we will use the pre-buy sales for grassroots advertisements and continue to spread the word on the series.

Let’s put the power in the hands of the audiences and filmmakers.

The Long Long Night follows Pete and Carroll, best friends since they were six, scrambling to build adult lives that contain some semblance of purpose.  It's about two people doing their absolute best to try and help..and absolutely not helping.  Created by real-life childhood friends Mark Duplass and Barret O'Brien over the course of two-and-a-half years, the series asks:

On a planet with 8+ billion people, can two people make any difference at all?

What if they're willing to put their lives on the line?

What if...um... their plan is super, highly, deeply flawed?

Okay, err, what if they never really had a "plan" plan to begin with?

A comedy that circles ‘round attempted suicide and clinical depression? We don’t get it”*

*quote by someone in a pitch meeting we never took

We did something different: we scrabbled together a small production budget and made six complete episodes. A written, rehearsed, shot, edited, post-produced entire season of independent television. We wrapped our arms around the revolutionaries of literature, film, and music we admire so much and simply did it. The work was built through tons of belief, scores of favors, and an energetic, small core team. A TV series that never had to compromise its integrity, and because of the freedom it was born in, the show grew to be fully what it is:

a tad strange and a splash dangerous.

Once the show was finished, we premiered 2 episodes at Tribeca Film Festival 2023 and screened 1 episode at SXSW 2024.

Now we're ready to bring the full series straight to you!

The Long Long Night is releasing April 28, 2025 on Kinema, but you can pre-order on Seed & Spark for early access (up to two weeks early!) and special perks!

Haven't heard of Kinema? Here's a little more info: Kinema is a social cinema platform for discovering great films and TV series in creative spaces. Filmmakers manage their own non-theatrical exhibition, including screening tours and booking their film or show, users can host in-person, virtual live, and virtual on-demand screenings. Kinema has 200K subscribers and a network of over 65,5000 active screening hosts - activists, community organizers, coffee shop owners, church pastors - hosting screenings in every kind of space from a living room to a school gym to a local theater.

Now that the season is built, we're taking a wild chance on a new model of distribution.

A model that is equally as exciting as it is fully doable. Instead of pleading with one or two large corporate interests who must then plead with many advertising interests, we're coming straight to you, the viewer, to build a grassroots community to self-distribute. We see a wide web of collaborators given the power to show what they want, where they want.

Community-built, community-distributed, and community-viewed storytelling.

Independent film has been around for a few decades, and that freedom has given rise to an entire ecosystem of daring and unique voices. We envision the bridge independent cinema built being used for television to dance across.  We're embracing a big picture vision: BRING THE INDEPENDENT SPIRIT TO TV.  The Long Long Night is made wholly by the artists who dreamed it: dedicated folks who put on many many hats to do this.  Now, with your support, we see that bridge, the one we can dance across together, and, by doing so, make it easier for others to follow on. An evolution of television.

A tev-olution!

His first 35mm short film WOW AND FLUTTER screened at more than forty film festivals world-wide, including Austin, AFI, Hamptons, Flickerfest and Gen Art in NYC. This success led to a feature film production — his award-winning baseball comedy CALVIN MARSHALL starring Steve Zahn. He followed this with the tender drama REDWOOD HIGHWAY (starring film legends Shirley Knight and Tom Skerritt), the sci-fi thriller BLACK ROAD, and PHOENIX, OREGON, a mid-life crisis comedy starring James Le Gros. Gary's production company, Joma Films, shared online profits with shuttered movie theaters and film festivals after its 2020 theatrical release of PHOENIX, OREGON was canceled by the Covid-19 pandemic, making it the number one movie in America for three weeks. Gary’s latest film ABOVE THE TREES enjoyed numerous theatrical engagements in 2024, and his next film, PELICAN, opens this Autumn.
