The Story
Synopsis
This LGBT horror film follows the reunion between two women - former lovers and current homophobes - who are trying to understand the mysterious disappearance of one woman's husband. Their meeting is tainted by a supernatural force driven to create chaos, who controls the women's actionsand compels them to violence. The women cannot detect this presense, and instead experience the most human of faults - a loss of control. Neither woman realizes the true culprit before their meeting turns deadly.
Origin Story
The script for "The Other Hand" was inspired by the location. Rachel Woods, co-writer and director, has access to cabin by a lake in Massachusetts. It's small, isolated, just a little run-down - a perfect horror movie set.
When developing this script from the location, the writers AJ and Rachel focused on creating a genuine feeling of horror for the audience without relying on tropes. Guided by masterpieces such as Rosemary's Baby, The Others and It Follows, Rachel crafted two dynamic anti-heros whose past relationship seems to have defined their future. Inspired by her history of mental illness, AJ invented a supernatural monster that plays on a fundamental human fear: who is in control when you're not? Short and sweet, this script is hauntingly effective.

About This Team

Rachel Woods
Co-Writer and Director
Rachel Woods is a writer, director, dancer and personal trainer. She is getting married in October, and wants to have a three-tiered pie in place of a cake. After seeing "Signs", her father's friend hid outside her bedroom window so he could jump out at her and scare her. Her cat, Edgar, is hairless (except when his winter coat comes in).

AJ Strauman
Co-Writer and Cinematographer
AJ Strauman lives and works in Brooklyn as a Director of Photography. For Christmas, she asked Santa for an eyeshadow palette and a bright pink weight belt. One time, she got kicked out of a movie theater while seeing The Descent (2005) because she was unaware it was a monster movie and screamed the most genuine scream of her life when the monsters showed up. The Descent remains her favorite horror movie.
Samantha Egle
Stunt Coordinator
Samantha is a nomadic fight director, violence designer and stage combat instructor presently located in Denver, Colorado. In her work, she strives to develop honest, affecting and thought-provoking moments of violence. In addition to her work in the combat arts, she is also a writer, stage/event manager and theatrical carpenter. She prefers being haunted to being horrified and Guillermo del Toro is her thriller movie idol.
