Mission Statement

In a world of possible impossibility, what depths of wonder will we find within and around us? It's a joyful thing to ask answerless questions and create equally bewildering sounds. We want this show to play in the queer ideology of discarding expectations with hope and curiosity.

The Story

We in THE SOUND MUSEUM have passion for science, storytelling, and sound. The goal of this project was to create a story with ample room for designers, actors, and writers to let their imaginations out for a spin. This project is filled with artists who have a passion for what we do, so be sure to check out our other projects as well as our host network: Faustian Nonsense

THE SOUND MUSEUM is an audio fiction about fictional audio. Played through field recordings, phone calls, audio diaries, and “Museum Plaques,” this project tells the story of museum employees and the wild, wonderful people they encounter in the world of recorded audio acquisition. It is the collision of acoustic-sci-fi and art-adventure.

Season one of The Sound Museum is an eight episode arc detailing the exploits of Paris and Sloan as they collect remarkable sounds from impossible locations.

Lee Tomanelli: Lee Tomanelli is a multidisciplinary artist whose work orbits the core pillar of curiosity in its many forms. Lee has studied performance in Philadelphia, Manhattan, and London, and has been working in audio for two years as a voice actor, show host, writer, and sound editor. They’ve been a podcast fanatic their entire life, and believes in the enormous potential of this beautiful wild-west of a medium… and now, boy howdy, they are thrilled to be creating their first full audio fiction. Welcome, beloved, we’ve saved you seat.

Nat Kelley: Nat Kelley DiMario is a queer & trans Brooklyn-based theatre artist, stage manager, and storyteller. The Sound Museum is their first venture into audio fiction and voice work! They hold a BA in Theatre Design and Production from Fordham University and are an alum of the Juilliard Professional Apprentice Program. @natdimario / natkelleydimario.com

His next book, Family Business, will be released from Gollancz in October.

Dante DiGangi Brown: Dante, known in most corners of the internet as "Digs", earned his moniker and his degree by studying horror and screenwriting at the Universities both Maryland and Long Island. He is now a proud magister, audio screenwriter, and voice actor, as well as a slightly repentant novelist and makeup artist. Some of his greatest joys include referencing his certificate in astrophysics and identification of pseudoscience, followed directly by describing Oregonian encounters of High Strangeness in visceral, gory, and highly specific detail.

Ivy McGurran: Ivy McGurran is a visual artist and performer based out of Brooklyn, NY. She grew up in the Midwest and made the big city move in 2021, which brought her into the laps of the Sound Museum team. THE SOUND MUSEUM is a passion project made by people who love audio storytelling. Many brilliant artists have already done hours of work behind the scenes to make this happen. We believe that paying creative people is a fundamental part of making sustainable art. We want to do everything we can to make high quality stories that are free and accessible to listeners, and in order to do that, we need to pay people what they are worth. We all need food. Some of us even need pet food.

This campaign will help fund the production phase of our entire eight episode season one. All episodes are currently written and in the late stages of editing, so once we have the green light to pay our artist, we will be on track for our rehearsal timeline. Upon release, The Sound Museum will be free and accessible for all listeners thanks to the help of our incredible backers.

We have a few suplemental funds from visual arts projects (@Leedtart on instagram) to bolster our sound team, but we still have more to go!

This is an ambitious project, but we hope to deliver on something truly special. With your help, our team can all feel the ease of throwing their full passion behind this piece with the assurance that their time will be honored.

In addition to this campaign funding our full eight episode season 1, we also have lofty artistic ambitions and actionable goals for the future!

[COMPLETE!] $2,000 - Pay Bonuses for cast and crew: This is a project with a team of dedicated artists behind it. While budgeting on the side of caution, some of these artists worked slightly below their asking rate. Indi projects run on blood, but we would sure prefer them to run on money. This will bring some key and generous players up to rate.

[COMPLETE!] $2,500 - The Sound Museum is a wild and wacky world filled with characters that deserve more time to shine. This stretch goal will assure two characters an extra 15-20 min. spotlight minisode. Dying to hear more about The Forever Canyon? Itching to know what The Captain gets up to in her spare time? Burning with curiosity about sound cryptids? This stretch goal will allow for more stories, more sound, and more fantastical fun from the world of The Sound Museum.

$3,000 - What could be weirder than a fuzzy sound ghost or a drowning number station? Only one way to find out! When we reach this goal we'll unredact the rejected concepts, declassify the most curious creations. In short, we'll publish the sounds and concepts that were too bizarre even for us! We imagine this as sort of a director's commentary episode on the podcast platforms once season 1 is complete, where we have various scenes and sounds narrated, bloopers, and more. In addition, various visuals will be published on The Sound Museum's page on the Faustian Nonsense website, including memes, sketches, and more!

Making a pledge right here on this page, in any amount, will go a long way toward helping us fund THE SOUND MUSEUM! You can do that by clicking directly on one of the "Incentives" to the right. But first, check out all the incentives we have to offer, to see how you can be involved! Want more than one incentive? Pick the one with the higher pledge! Every pledge we receive will get the incentive for that level and incentives for all the lower-cost levels!

Another way to help that doesn't cost you a thing is to share the link to this page on social media or with your friends! So much of what we do here spreads by word of mouth, so please keep those words flowin’!

If you know someone who might love fiction podcasts, sci-fi, and enby and/or ace representation, share this project with them! These are very important to us and we know it might be important to others as well. You can spread the word on social media easily by copy and pasting the paragraph below, or use it as a basis to say it in your own words:

"Check out this podcast being crowdfunded by Faustian Nonsense! THE SOUND MUSEUM is an imaginative sci-fi adventure that celebrates the possibility of sound. You can watch their trailer, read up on this project, and support the creators at seedandspark.com/fund/sound-museum "

The world is intense, chaotic, and bewildering, but despite all of that noise, good folks rise up to take interest in audio fiction. Not only take interest, but support audio fiction in a myriad of active ways. Specifically this audio fiction! …That is the most inspiring thing in the whole world. Any thanks would cheapen the amount of gratitude I have for all of the people who have believed in this project thus far. You floor me. You are remarkable. Thank you. I love you.

About This Team

THE SOUND MUSEUM is a collaboration between sound nerds, storytellers, and audio artists. Here are some of the minds behind this project!

Pilot Team (Shared Road Theatre Company):

Kaylie Groff: Kaylie Groff is a queer theatre artist and educator based in Denver, Colorado. They are the artistic director of Shared Road Theatre Company, which supported the production of the pilot of The Sound Museum. Directing: Life of the Party (SRTC, 2021), The Moon & The Wolf (Fordham Theatre, 2019), The Dybbuk (Fordham Theatre, 2018). Sound design: My Papier Mache Monster (Fordham Theatre, 2020), Johnny (Summerfest, 2018).

Andrew Connelly: Andrew is a pandemic graduate of Fordham University. He works primarily as a scenic and costume designer, a teaching artist, and a collaborative, devised storyteller. His most recent work was a stint at the New London Barn teaching youth theatre with a focus on integrating design. Select Credits: Twelfth Night, Electricity, Shadows (Scenic Design), The Moon and the Wolf, Conversations with Stars (Costume Design) at Fordham University; ADHP2 at the Red Turnip Theatre (Assoc. Scenic/Costume), Jane Anger at the New Ohio (Assoc. Scenic); Headpieces for Hercules at the Delacorte Theatre.

Daria Kent: Daria Kent (she/her) is an emerging theatre artist based in New York. She grew up in Maryland where she developed a love for storytelling, live performance, and Chesapeake blue crabs. In the fall of 2021, she was an artist in residence at the Center at West Park, where she produced her play, VIRGINIA/POE. Daria’s other credits include The Panic of ‘29, produced by Less Than Rent Theatre (dramaturgy), and The Sound Museum, a new narrative podcast (directing). She strives to create work that is feminine, provocative, intertextual, intimate, and—most importantly—weird. BA: Fordham University.

Faustian Nonsense Folks:

Cai Gwilym Pritchard: Cai is a sound artist, writer and Londoner with a love for theology and sci-fi. They enjoy sonic weirdness and can't seem to decide on which aspect of sound he wants to pursue ‘cause it all seems so exciting, regardless it will probably involve granular synthesis.

Tony DiCaro-Smith: Tony is the Faustian Nonsense Marketing Director, a designer of graphics, and hopes to one day be the audio fiction crowdfunding expert. Since 2014 he has received a degree in graphic design from Full Sail University and taken on various marketing, video editing, and design roles for several companies and indie creators. Developing visual content for an audio-exclusive medium has been a challenge, but he firmly believes that audio dramas can have a strong sense of branding and community engagement in addition to producing incredible sonic art. Community management is a particular love of Tony’s and gathering talent and fans alike to put on a show is a treasured aspect of the job. The Sound Museum has been a personal favorite branding project of his, and he’s eagerly awaiting the excitement of crowdfunding for it!

Hannah Levin: Hannah Levin is the lead writer of Faustian Nonsense’s original podcasts A Midsummer’s Quarantine and Super Suits, and the script editor for Be Not Afraid. Despite an academic background in engineering, they have been writing for much of their life and are thrilled to assist with The Sound Museum.

Dante DiGangi Brown: Dante, known in most corners of the internet as "Digs", earned his moniker and his degree by studying horror and screenwriting at the Universities both Maryland and Long Island.
