Mission Statement

We want to challenge the stark and stereotypical underrepresentation of MENA (Middle Eastern North African) performers in film. By showcasing authentic characters and diverse perspectives, we seek to redefine the MENA narrative and foster greater understanding and connection.

LOGLINE

A wide-eyed Iranian immigrant accepts a wedding proposal from her billionaire boss’s son in order to keep her visa status in the US. What starts out as a green card wedding on Cape Cod becomes so much more when her two closest friends arrive with their own boyfriends and cross-cultural baggage in tow.

ABOUT THE FILM

When Rana’s expiring visa forces her to face the reality of giving up her career dreams and returning home to Iran, she accepts a wedding proposal from her “fun summer fling” Adam, who happens to be the son of her billionaire boss. Overwhelmed by her decision, Rana enlists the help of her two closest friends, Nadia and Setareh, to a Cape Cod getaway that will either be the weekend of her dreams, or the worst mistake of her life.

The three friends reunite on the beach when Nadia and Setareh arrive with their own boyfriends (and drama) in tow. What starts off as a simple visa-wedding gets complicated when unexpected feelings, friends’ opinions, and cultural expectations are involved. Over the course of the weekend, everything starts to unravel as friendships and relationships are put to the test, but in one strange way or another, through the thick of the growing pains, everyone comes together stronger than ever. Rana, Nadia, and Setareh will forever remember this trip as The Weekend On Cape Cod When Everything Changed.

FUNDRAISING

Independent film is not for the faint of heart, but we're up for the challenge! We are looking to raise a MINIMUM of $75,000 to help support our production needs and make this film a reality. That being said, our dream is to raise far beyond that - and we need YOUR help to do it!

We're elated to have already raised 50% of our financial needs through generous private equity investors. We're looking to raise another 25% through this crowdfunding campaign so that we can stay on track and film Cape Cod THIS COMING APRIL! Yep, you read that right. It's only a few months away and it's where YOU come in to make this possible! We are infinitely grateful for your support.

WRITER'S STATEMENT

Is there a time in your life that you credit as the moment everything changed? For me, it was this. This weekend on Cape Cod. I was invited to a spontaneous wedding. It turned out to be so much more. That weekend, in a giant summer home, on the most perfect Cape Cod beach, I witnessed two perfect strangers fall in love. I made life long friends. I found my husband. I had earth-shattering realizations about who I was and who I wanted to become. We all did. Almost in grief, I experienced for the very first time what losing my youth would feel like. We all did. And it hurt.

I spent my adolescent years living between a conservative town in Pennsylvania and a city in the United Arab Emirates. I’ve attended both Catholic school and Muslim class. I’ve been labeled both “prudish” and “unholy.” American and foreign. Exotic, ethnically-ambiguous, a POC, not a POC, a terrorist, and even worse...white! I’m a 3rd Culture Kid! Confused. With a dichotomy of beliefs, interests, and music taste (Country really does it for me, I’m not gonna lie). This story celebrates the grey area of “identity” without needing to define it. It celebrates the beautiful clusterfuck of emotions that is being from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

I believe this story has a little something in it for everyone. Tons of love, tons of laughs, tons of white people (don’t worry), and plenty of other perfectly imperfect characters that will leave you feeling a little more seen. I sincerely hope you’ll consider helping us bring this project to life.

About This Team

WRITER: DALIA ROONI

Dalia Rooni is an NYU trained actor and writer who has an extensive resume spanning Film, TV, Voiceover and Commercial working with legends such as John Travolta and Rainn Wilson. Dalia’s complete lack of patience led her to writing her own material from “Operation White Boy”, amedy thriller which explored religion across generations and debuted at the Diversity In Cannes Film Festival, to “Gen V”, a horror comedy which won Best Writer, Best Concept and Best Acting awards at the CFC in addition to a development deal with Bootleg Universe, to “Clean Slate”, Dalia’s last collaboration with long time friend and collaborator, Lauren Noll. In addition, Dalia placed in the top 3% for the WWFC pilot accelerator program for her comedy pilot, “Ethnically Ambiguous”, and is currently in the early stages of development on another comedy feature “Minor Differences” with actor and producer, Medalion Rahimi.

DIRECTOR: LAUREN NOLL

Lauren Noll is a Los Angeles based actor and filmmaker with a Master’s Degree in Acting from Harvard University, making her a true actors’ director. In addition to acting in various films and commercials, Lauren’s curiosity around other roles in filmmaking led her to write, direct, and star in her first award-winning short film,“Honor” (2020). She is thrilled to have followed that filmmaking debut with “Gen V” (2021) for which she and Dalia Rooni were granted a development deal with Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe, and “Clean Slate” (2022), which was awarded a grand jury prize at the CFC, and finally “The Heart of Texas” (2023), which won Lauren nine acting awards during its extensive festival run, qualified for the Academy Awards, and found itself on several Oscar prediction lists! This project will mark Lauren’s feature film directorial debut, and she couldn’t be more thrilled to embark on this territory with her work wife and long time collaborator, Dalia Rooni.

PRODUCER: EMILY REACH WHITE (STUDIO 15)

Award-winning filmmaker Emily Reach White has an extensive and varied career writing and producing films, both short and feature length. In 20 films ranging from the Southern Gothic comedy anthology Unbecoming, to the personal dramedy based on her father's terminal disease Get Better, to the cical movie business exploits of Cinema Purgatorio, White has continually showcased her diverse talents and creativity. Recently, she produced the music-centric, coming of age comedy Electric Jesus, which explores the world of a fictional 80's Christian hair metal band called 316. The band's journey from playing Bible camp talent shows to head-banging rock venues is an amusing look at youth culture during the time when heavy metal music was bathed in controversy. The film stars Brian Baumgartner (The Office) and Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire). Electric Jesus was awarded Best Picture at the 2020 Orlando Film Festival. It was also selected as Best Narrative Feature at both the Fayetteville Film Festival and Rome (Georgia) International Film Festival, and was screened at over a dozen festivals in 2020.

Saffron Honey Films strives to move the needle with MENA creatives, and tell stories of the minority and multicultural experience in America.
