Mission Statement

“Thin Air” boasts a majority female team and promotes women in horror both in front of and behind the camera. Join our team and make horror history while supporting our union talent and hardworking crew during a difficult time in the entertainment industry!

The Story

Thin Air is a time travel horror short that’s set partially in the Victorian Age and partially in present day. It follows Lizzie Watson, an experienced and fearless true crime journalist. Amid tensions with her editor, she decides to stay a week in New York’s most notorious Airbnb where an unsolved double homicide occurred in 1891 in order to write an article about the crime.

However, as she explores the grounds, she realizes that not only does the home still contain evidence that could solve the cold case—but that the truth is more horrific than anything she could have imagined. Without giving away the ending, you can expect terrifying apparitions, intricate gothic settings, and the creeping dread of realizing that if a mirror is covered… leave it alone.

Thin Air is a horror short with strong sci-fi elements that’s both moving and haunting. Think of it as an old-fashioned Victorian ghost story with a modern detective twist, with a time travel component linking the two worlds together. It feels as though you’ve stepped into a whimsically-gothic nightmare that’s fantastical but still rooted in realistic characters. Aesthetically and tone-wise think The Haunting of Hill HouseStranger Things, and Dark.

Thematically, this story explores themes of fate, legacy, and mortality, posing the question: “What parts of our history do we preserve, and which parts should remain hidden?”

I’ve always been drawn to material that’s dark and disturbing, especially Victorian horror. I’m inspired by directors and writers like Tim Burton and Guillermo Del Toro and Mike Flanagan who combine these gothic, fantastical stories with gorgeous visuals and themes. But most of the stories I’ve seen in this genre aren’t told by women, and I also haven’t seen the kind of time travel horror that I personally want to see—which is why I wrote Thin Air.

This is a beautiful, terrifying story that keeps you engaged every step of the way, and it’s an honor to lead the incredible Thin Air team in my directorial debut.
