The Story

We live in a world hooked on certainty.
Quick judgments. Easy labels.
But real transformation lives in the in-between.
We are crafting a story that challenges perception, invites reflection, and expands the definition of strength, beauty, and passion.
This film isn't just about pole dancing.
It's about reclaiming your life.
Finding what excites you.
And giving ourselves the grace and permission to change.
This Fire Isn’t Yours To Name follows a woman stuck in the stillness of routine. She feels the weight of something missing—and for once, she’s ready to break the pattern. She begins to move, on her own terms, and refuses to look back.
This isn’t just a story. It’s a shift.
We’re inviting you to stand at the edge of a revolution—one that redefines strength, passion, and what it means to take up space. Our goal? To shift how the world sees pole fitness—not just as spectacle, but as sport. As something worthy of Olympic gold.
Because when we live boldly, visibly, and unapologetically, we don’t just reclaim our power—we expand what’s possible for everyone.
That’s how change begins.
"One of my favorite quotes is “You don’t choose your passions. Your passions choose you.” I can honestly say pole fitness is a passion that found me at a time when I needed it the most. My pole fitness journey all started with a random Groupon. About 6 years ago, I found myself in a position where I just really needed to add some positivity into my life. I went to Groupon in hopes of finding a workout class on a budget. That is when I stumbled upon a Groupon for a pole fitness studio super close to my house. I didn’t even know this studio existed and had no interest in pursuing pole fitness at the time. I said to myself “what the heck, why not?” and purchased the class pass. The rest is history. Never did I think I would become a seasoned pole athlete that has performed in several showcases, competed and judged at national competition, or a certified instructor. My goal with this film is to expand the idea of what pole fitness is and break its negative stigmas. Pole athletes become victims of false stereotypes and judgments that society has created. Pole fitness is a SPORT and should be celebrated as such. It’s time pole fitness athletes get the respect and recognition we deserve. I really hope by the end of this film others are inspired to embrace their passion whatever it may be!" - Lauren Bromfield, Accredited Pole Fitness Instructor, Lead Actress, and inspiration behind "This Fire Isn't Yours To Name"
This Fire Isn’t Yours to Name lives somewhere between the personal rebellion of Frances Ha, The surreal workplace absurdity of Sorry to Bother You, and the physical empowerment arc of I, Tonya—but if you swapped Tonya’s skates for a pole and gave her a day job in corporate hell.

Where is the money going?
- Our goal is simple: With your support, production and post will be nearly covered, so we can put every ounce of energy into making something powerful, beautiful, and truly seen.
- This will be a 9-minute, heartfelt short film crafted by a passionate team committed to sparking real social change. At its core, this project aims to challenge outdated perceptions and showcase pole fitness as the athletic, empowering art form it truly is.
Too many people have never witnessed a pole fitness athlete outside of tired media portrayals. We're changing that.
- Every single dollar raised goes directly to production and to sharing this film as widely as possible. We’re not just making a short—we’re starting a movement. One that could inspire people across the country to step into a studio, discover their strength, and redefine what empowerment looks like.
Stretch Goals

About This Team
After collaborating on an award-winning short film, Lauren Bromfield approached me, Joshua Shaffer, with a powerful idea: to create a short film that redefines how pole fitness is seen by the public. She envisioned a story that could challenge outdated stereotypes and inspire others to explore pole fitness as a path to self-improvement, strength, and joy.
Now, alongside director Chad Wengel and cinematographer Austin Rhogelia, we’re bringing that vision to life. With a top-tier production team and a mission to reshape perception, this film aims to be more than just visually striking—it’s a movement to celebrate the athleticism, artistry, and empowerment of pole fitness.
