Tell me about your mother. Tell me in minutes what has taken you years to learn. Is she more question, or answer? Is she your mirror, or your foil? If there is any common ground between us, then your mother is like mine – she is both, and more.

Mission Statement
The Story

Judy and her mother live in a two-person world, isolated together and constantly seeking something from the other. Judy, a competitive swimmer, searches for a warmth and connection behind her mother’s heavy expectations. Her mother, the coach, believes the only way for Judy to reach her full potential is for her to keep her distance, but her past still begins to drip into their relationship.

The two main visual elements of this film are cinematography and 35mm still photography – our director and members of our team have passions and experiences in both – which will be woven together for an immersive yet stylised experience of memory.

Judy and her mother feel trapped together – we almost always see them in the same frame. But this in itself is also a type of closeness. Our cinematography will have a bleach bypass look, drawing out the texture in our leads’ faces, while also instilling each scene with a coldness.
Scenes with Ruth and Judy will have more separation, more elasticity. They are, for the most part, sorting through Judy’s memories – wading through them – and so there will be some form of water between, on, or around them in all their scenes.

Above stills from our DP, Jason Wang's, past cinematography work!

High contrast 35mm analog stills that recur throughout the film at crucial moments. The images have multiple iterations, each sharpening in focus until the last moment where we see what it is that has been, in a way, haunting the film. The failure and focus of memory. Film stills have an ingrained (ha) texture to them that is unique to the medium – when you boil a memory down to one moment, you still feel them. That’s what film can do.

Above film photographs are examples of our director's black and white photography.

Now we’re at the point where we talk about the expenses of filmmaking (I know, I know). To lighten the mood, we’ve made a fun breakdown of where we will be allocating the funds we raise:

Any surplus funds will be put directly towards post-production, festival submissions, and getting all your lovely incentive gifts to you safely!

Your pledge now will support us through the remainder of pre-production until the end of shooting for ‘This Is All You Are.’
After we wrap filming, we will go directly into post-production and then onto festival submissions. After the festival circuit, we will share a password-protected link with you to enjoy the film as we decide where the film will premiere online. Finally, ‘This Is All You Are’ will be posted publicly for everyone (and their mother) to experience forever.
