Mission Statement

Thoughts & Prayers reimagines Antigone in modern America: shattered by its addiction to violence and willing to persecute scapegoats in order to maintain normalcy. A shocking act of violence pits a community against a foreign exchange student who cannot condone a return to “normal” in the aftermath.

The Story

The Antigone Project presents Thoughts & Prayers, a new devised play collaboratively developed and written by the ensemble.

In this meta-theatrical play inspired by the relationship between Antigone, Ismene, and their brothers, the ensemble casts themselves in the fictional story of Barrett High School to examine the reality of a shattered community.

Thoughts & Prayers interrogates the unique and terrible reality of mass shootings in America. Following Amanda, an Argentinian exchange student, the story explores her host family and community's struggle to cope with a horrific tragedy. After Amanda survives a school shooting, the community questions her relationship with the killer. As narratives spin around her, Amanda's psyche fragments, haunted by the voices of the slain, the perpetrator, and the ensemble.
