TITTY BOY tells the story of a teenage boy with gynecomastia (aka "man boobs") who attempts to change his body by taking matters into his own hands. This short film is going to be tender, sweet, and funny for all of those who were fat, skinny, or whatever didn't fit the status quo in high school.

Mission Statement

This short film tells the story of a young teenage boy with gynecomastia (aka man boobs), the troubles growing up with this condition, and how to find a way out of it using your own means.

The Story

Hello there! We're at 99% of the goal at the time of this post. Thank you to everyone who has contributed at this point. We are still seeking all the support we can get! All pledges that get us past 100% will go into other elements of the film, listed below.

STRETCH GOALS

$9000 - We can hire a professional editor to make the best edit of the film.

$10,000 - We can hire a colorist to make sure the film looks consistently great.

$11,000 - We'll can hire out a musician to make an original score.

$12,000 - We can start submitting this puppy to film festivals!

Hi, I'm Austin Culp, a first-time writer/director who has a personal connection with this story of gynecomastia - aka man boobs. Anyone who has had this condition before knows how embarrasing it can be and how you want to always hide it from anyone and everyone. This story will go into that and also find a way out, with its own special strategy. You might see yourself in this story - whether it's someone with gynecomastia or someone who just had some body type that your peers didn't agree with in high school. I plan to tell this story in a way that many people can relate and understand.

Set in the early 2000s in an unnamed Texas town, my short film tells the story of Trey, a young teenage boy who - despite taking a dive into anorexia to lose a lot of weight - still continues to have a reminder of how his body doesn't fit the expectations of other kids his age. After finding out his gynecomastia is something that can be surgically corrected, his family decides that it's far out of their budget to handle. So, Trey finds his own method to solve his problem.

Stories about gynecomastia are few and far between. Stories about body insecurities are more common, but I still think this is an under-explored area when looking at teenage boys. I'm laying out all of my past, present, and future body insecurities in this project. My goal with this short film is to both cover stories of gynecomastia and anything else teenage kids might have felt about their bodies during their high school years.

You might be asking: Where will my support for this short film go? Well, let me tell you!

Any support provided to this campaign is incredibly helpful and I'll be so happy to see it. All funds from this campaign will go directly into the production of the short. One major place that it will support is making sure that everyone who is involved gets paid. Austin isn't a cheap city these days so no creative deserves to work for free. In addition to cast and crew wages, additional funds will support finding the right locations (see locations below) and equipment to tell this story.

Once in the post-production and distribution phases of this project, I will begin to seek out additional support from other funding opportunities in the filmmaking world.

This project is my baby and I've been pouring my love, sweat, and tears into it and will not let you (or myself) down.

My team on this project will include a range of Austin filmmaking professionals.

I will start by introducing myself, Austin Ford Franklin Culp, the writer/producer/director of this project. For the past ten+ years, I've been in marketing at the Austin Film Society, supporting the local and global film culture in Austin and marketing many aspects of it. My background includes a degree in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas.

Our Director of Photography is E.J. Enríquez, an Austin, TX based DP whose work encompasses a variety of genres and formats that have screened around the world including Sundance, Berlinale, IDFA, SXSW & Tribeca among others. Work has taken him to 5 continents including Africa, Asia, Europe & South America. Current work can be seen on HBO, Netflix, Hulu & Amazon Prime Video.

One of our producers is Wilson Smith, an independent producer and filmmaker who has lived and worked in Austin, Texas for over a decade. His credits include To the Wonder, Mud, Knight of Cups, and Song to Song. He was a producer on the feature film KRISHA which won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2015 South by Southwest Film Festival and was distributed by A24 in 2016. He subsequently worked as an Associate Producer on It Comes At Night, released in 2017 by A24. Additionally, he is an Independent Spirit Award recipient for his work on KRISHA which won the John Cassavetes Prize for Best Feature Film Under $500,000.

More cast and crew will be announced further along during the project.

My goals are to film the short in the summer of 2022, followed by a post-production phase in late summer 2022, with the plan to submit it to festivals in 2023.

I want to ensure that every contribution goes to the film. But, hey, a marketing professional knows the value of having people see your film! Every donor, regardless of the contribution, will be sent a private link to the final film once it is complete. Beyond that, the majority of the incentives will be invitations to see the film with people in person with the creatives who helped make it.

You've made it this far - you must really care about the project! I need help from my friends, family, and supporters like you! Please support this project even further by sharing it on social media with your networks. I've drafted pre-written posts that are ready to copy/paste/share.
