The Story
Hi! Thank you so much for checking us out!
This is a well thought out, and highly experienced team of underdogs! It is our passion to create work that matters! In an industry where access is not easy to achieve, we turn to lovers of story, cinema, and life, to help us create something that can mean so much in this world. We don't expect to make a miracle healing film. What we want, is to help people feel seen, and encourage them to share their struggle! Sparking MORE CONVERSATION on what it means(and what it can look like) to live with suicidal ideation. Not to mention, reminding the world of THE BEAUTY AND POWER OF ROLLERSKATING!
THIS IS MORE THAN A STORY! THIS IS A MESSAGE!
Times have only gotten crazier and crazier! So many people walk around in silent turmoil. Loss, addiction, suicidal ideology. Fighting with the idea of believing in a better life. While our story does focus on the latter in the list, it also leaves an open space for other struggles to relate.

ISAIAH sits in a group counseling session. There every week, but he doesn’t share, he just watches and listens. Afterwards, Lola confronts him for not being there for her, though he promised he’d be a better support. On the way home, Isaiah finds himself standing in front of an unknown building, which he can’t bring himself to enter. Gripping the necklace around his neck, as he is hit with painful memories.
As awkward as his outside life is, at home Isaiah is even more troubled. Everyday he goes through the motions and mundane routines. At the end of each night, Isaiah finds himself kneeled in front of his bedside drawer with a sign on it displaying a single word...“DON’T” He Fights to stay away from what’s inside the drawer, though he wants to get to it more than anything.
We watch as Isaiah continues day after day to struggle with the routine of trying to live well outside of his home, and struggling not to give in to despair and defeat inside. All bringing him to one day. ONE DAY, where things go differently. He fights harder, resists harder and makes exhausting efforts to be better. Even, with the help of Lola, going where he has been too afraid to go. He gets back home to his cage, the pain, the drawer. Time to make a decision... Self-Destruction or Salvation?

"The story of 'Today Hit Different' is one that is pulled from much of my own personal experiences. It deals with the way past grief and trauma, as well as the temptation of self destruction (i.e. suicide), can manifest silently, though awkwardly, in our outside lives, while also showing up loudly, unyielding behind closed doors. The details within have sparked conversations throughout my team. Conversations that have been eye-opening and life-moving. This is what I hope for when it comes to the audience. It may be someone next to you, or someone you love that fits in the story. Or perhaps it is you that you'll see on that screen. I believe that this is the story that can help many people who are suffering in silence feel seen. Adding more meaning to the already powerful saying "You never know what someone else is going through."

WHAT'S THE REASON? WHY IS THIS EVEN NECESSARY?

As of March 2026, data indicates that over 49,000 people died by suicide in the U.S. in 2023. Recent years suggest over 48,000 annual deaths. Globally, over 720,000 people die by suicide every year! Male suicide rates are consistently high, with men accounting for nearly 80% of all suicide deaths in the U.S. Dying by suicide approximately four times more often than women.
CONVERSATION can be one of the greatest ways to prevent these tragedies. Even just feeling seen and heard can encourage someone to stay another day, week, or hopefully the rest of their natural life. Unfortunately, there's still a stigma around being able to talk about suicidal ideation. Particularly with men, there is a common school of thought that it makes them less manly, or that no one cares. This film aims to help push the erasure of these stigmas. To open the door to more understanding.
THE POWER OF ROLLERSKATING!!!
Rollerskating is so much more than an activity. It is so much more than just something to go do on a late night. Many don't know, but it is an entire culture. There are so many, who will even tell you, that it saved them. Our writer, Daniel Washington is one of those people. For this reason, he chose to place this amazing outlet as a real theme in this film. Highlighting the way that rollerskating can help release emotion, and separate oneself from anything that is plaguing them in the outside world. Our character, Isaiah fights to get back to his old skating rink that he has been afraid to visit ever since his brother passed. To get back to that feeling... of being free.
Let's Talk About The Stretch Goal!
$22,400 = Green Light
$28,000 = Complete Production
$35,000 = Taking This Journey All The Way!
Our main goal is $28,000. This is enough to complete our production process as well as begin submitting to festivals, and we truly appreciate all your help getting us to that point. We do also have a STRETCH GOAL of $35,000. THIS amount would give us the opportunity to take far more care with the entire production process, pay some amazing folks who are donating their time to this, pay more appropriate rates to creators who are taking much less than what they truly deserve, and have the opportunity to travel to and speak at some of these incredible festivals where this film and this message will be showcased.

“Collateral Beauty” & “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” align with many themes in “Today Hit Different”. In “Collateral Beauty” Howard (Will Smith) is dealing with the trauma of losing his daughter. Trying to understand why this happened to him all while attending a support group. The ones closest to him are concerned that he is not coping with it, so they hire actors to try to help him through it. Grappling between salvation and self-distruction. Struggling to cope with the past, and trying to figure out what’s worth fighting for, is something that both Isaiah and Howard have in common.
Throughout the Film, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, Charlie (Logan Lerman) is trying to live his life. Starting his freshman year of high school, and attempting to make friends. All the while, memories of his past continue to creep in, tormenting him. He experiences difficulty making certain decisions amongst the sadness and blame. Just like Charlie, Isaiah is also tortured by memories. Every day that passes by, Isaiah tries to live his life as normal as possible. Seeking happiness and peace.
