The Story
Our Goal
This is just the beginning of many future LGBTQ+ projects that involve a more positive perspective on the community, steering away from the negative stereotypes and images that today's media content promotes. It's important to make LGBTQ+ relationships normal in society and it's time that these couples aren't being stared at or mocked publicly. It shouldn't matter if it is male-male or female-female, what should matter is that it is a healthy relationship built on trust, love, and commitment, all of which are the same qualities expected of heterosexual relationships.
What to expect!
The doc will include various interviews with LGBTQ+ individuals who will tell of their first love and romantic relationships. The interviews will consist of diverse goups ranging in age, race, and storytelling. Each couple offering advice, wisdom, and gushy details of their love experience.
Beyond these interviews, there will also be an animated characters in the film that represent the stories being told. The characters will act as the real people and act out the love stories being told. The characters will be animated in a similar style to Disney Channel's Original Series, Lizzie McGuire, from the 2000s:
It will also resemble Nickeoldeon's 1990s cartoon, Doug:
These types of drawn animations maintain the light-heartedness of the topic and give us entertaining visuals that help us to connect even more with those being interviewed.
Spreading the Love
This documentary will be beneficial to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or sexual preference.
It will draw attention away from the incorrect notion that being LGBTQ+ is all about sex, and bring about a better understanding of the community and the love between its members. It will help parents with LGBTQ+ children to better understand that they didn't fail as parents and also that their dreams of their children having "normal" marriages and their own children is still possible. These individuals can still live happy lives and have amazing families. Today's youth needs to have visual and audible awareness of genuine relationships, to have healthy representation. Seeing and understanding love is universal is powerful and incredibly upfilling.
Director's Statement
Hi there! I'm Faith DeLorenzo and I am directing my senior thesis project, To the Moon and Back, as part of my last semester in the Film BFA program at Montclair State University in New Jersey.
Ever since I was a young girl, my goal was to help people and to leave a positive impact on their lives. It wasn't until high school that I realized that the best possible way for me to do so was through my love of video making, as it serves as a creative outlet that can touch many people at once.
After coming out just a year ago, I experienced firsthand the hardships of being LGBTQ+ in a heteronormative society. Luckily, I have a strong support system of family, friends, and my amazing girlfriend whom have all helped me become a person that I love. I realize, however, that others may not be as lucky as I am. I have met and befriended numerous people that have been rejected or ridiculed by their families for being LGBTQ+, which is always heartbreaking to see and hear.
This makes my goal and dream to help society better understand who we are and that we do and feel the same exact things as them. That way the LGBTQ+ youth can live freely and be proud about who they are and who they love without fear of judgements.
With this project, I am pushing my personal boundaries and working otuside of my comfort zone in order to create the best film possible. I dream of making To the Moon and Back (TMAB) a brand or non-profit organization one day while continuing to promote the happiness and pride of the LGBTQ+ community.
We support love and I ask that you please support our efforts in making my little dream a huge reality.
Thank you!

About This Team
We currently have a two-person team for the pre-production of the film, which will expand as we get closer to our shooting dates in July.
The film's Director and Editor, Faith DeLorenzo, is a senior filmmaking student at Montclair State University in New Jersey. It is her vision for the film that we are trying to bring to life. The documentary's plot and ideas are based on personal experiences and feelings within romantic relationships and the LGBTQ+ community on her search to find herself and her voice.
The film's Producer and Marketing Manager, Talisa Velez, is a Montclair State University 2018 alumni, currently within the film industry in the production offices for TV/Film productions. She is the backbone of our project being in charge of the pre-production processes and the scheduling of the film's production and shooting dates.
