The Story
Hi there! I’m Hilary and I’m the director of the film Twenty. I started working on this project several years ago when I observed how people have very different views and attitudes about using technology. At the core, this movie is about a group of longtime friends who overcome their weakness and band together to get out of an unusual situation.
Please watch our pitch video and consider making a pledge. If we make $3k in pledges we'll show you the first scene of our movie from the footage we filmed last year and if we make $6k in pledges we'll show you the first two scenes. We would be super grateful if you could pledge on our campaign so we can finish the rest of production and see you at the opening premiere party!
"Watching Twenty grow over the past three years from rough draft into a film project that's currently in production has been exciting! Help us get to the finish line!" -Robert Kirkendall (Co-Writer)
"So impressed with this director, cast and crew. This film is a winner!" -Francis Perry (Actor, Hal)
"Very excited to be working with a great group of people on such an interesting project. With social media and data being so much a part of our lives, it's always important to address these issues head-on." -Michael Abts (Actor, Gabe)

The Story
In Santa Cruz, four long-time friends (Wesley, Gabe, Myra, Naomi) are invited to a roaring twenties party. On the way they glitch into an alternate reality that is mixed with the 1920s and modern technology. In this world all communication is public, and privacy is under prohibition. The friends go to a speakeasy where they can bootleg electronic communication. After the bootleggers try to blackmail them, they overcome their personal weaknesses to glitch back to the real world.
So basically, it's a story about:
- privacy
- communication
- trust
Director's Process:
My creative process involves identifying a timely or interesting subject and putting that premise in a special circumstance that reveals deeper insight. This insight can be about larger issues we currently face as a society or issues that characters reveal about themselves over the course of the script.

So far, we have:
-
Filmed for 5 days in San Jose, Santa Cruz and Milpitas
-
Received in-kind sponsorships from Verve Coffee Roasters, Erik’s Deli & Cafe and Idea Fab Lab
-
Started post-production on the existing footage

We still have to:
-
Film the remaining scenes (estimate of 6 shoot days) in the speakeasy, office and silent disco
-
Secure locations for the remaining film shoot. We will be filming in Santa Cruz and Milpitas, CA
-
Hire crew to create lighting effects, set decoration and more!
Premiere Party
After the entire movie is completed we are going to have a PREMIERE PARTY where we will screen the film, hold an award ceremony, and host a Q&A session with the cast & crew.
The premiere will take place in the Bay Area (exact time & location TBD) and everyone who pledges is invited to attend!
