Mission Statement

"Twitterpated"is a romantic comedy set in the Queer world of Brooklyn, NY. With its diverse cast and crew made up primarily of LGBTQ+ individuals, we are able to tell this story from the perspective of our community. We believe that representation matters and all bodies are beautiful.

The Story

What is "Twitterpated" ?

"Twitterpated" is a modern queer take on the classic French play Cyrano de Bergerac. Originally, Cyrano is a story of a man with a cartoonishly large nose. In our story the lead Charles is an under-confident gay man who sees himself as fat. His friends see him as the love-bug he is and someone who is worthy of all that life has to offer.

(alt text for accessibility: Charles is a native Brooklynite and near-permanent resident at the local queer bar, Metropolitan. While he enjoyrs his drink, he doesnt enjoy being the center of attention. He's underconfident, and the kind of person who sits at the very back of the room to avoid the eyes of the crowd. An insurance adjuster by day and amatuer playwright by night, as his true love is of theatre)

Charles falls in love with cutie Rocky, a romantic bon vivant who recently moved to Brooklyn. Rocky, truely sees Charles goodness and heart.

(alt text for accessibility: Rocky just moed from Minneapolis and is eagerly trying to become one with his new home. He's a Library Archivist, an advid reader, and a bon vivant ready to seize life & love. A clever & witty romantic who's somewhat old fasioned; he's looking for something with more depth & meaning than a casual hook-up. He'd love to be courted. He instantly befriends Charles, serving as a muse as well as the unknowing object of Charles affections.)

Rather than confess his heart, Charles allows his less than brilliant but gorgeous friend Christian to step in and pursue Rocky. Charles helps Christian to win over Rocky by composing texts for Christian to send and overall being Christians voice. The attraction to Rocky is real... for both of these men.

(alt text for accessibility:Christian is a handsome but socially akward oddball. He also enjoys acting as a hobby and a means of overcoming his akwardness. He's the adult equivalent of a puppy: overeager to please, naive, & in need ot training. He is instantly smitten with Rocky and enlists Charles to help win Rocky over, relying on Charles' words.)

Included in the film are some mean girls, an underwear party, and a very helpful Drag Queen named Belinda Badwitch.

(alt text for accessibility: A fabulous drag queen with a razor-sharp togue, a wit unparalleled, and a heart hidden under it all. She runs multiple weekly parties, where she reigns emcee supreme. She's Charles' closest thing to a friend, and the sort of fairy godmother of the story, minus the magic and sunny disposition.)

In 2022, we have a decent selection of LGBTQ+ films but very few have the diversity that makes our community beautiful. We feel that as a trans man (AJ) and a person who used to be a much heavier weight, (Cameron) we are the right people to tell a story about learning to love yourselves for who you are. In a time where conventionally good looks still rule the world, we wanted to show our audience that beauty comes in all shades of the rainbow.

We will announce cast members during the 30 days of this campaign, so make sure to keep up with our updates!

This will be filmed entirely in Brooklyn with the help of friends apts and our local bars, Macri Park and Metropolitan.

Currently, we raising $20,000 so that we can pay a our Queer cast and crew to bring this work to life. We have already raised additional funds via investors, but this $20,000 will top off the budget and will allow us to make a qulity film for our audience.

We are happy to say that this film is one that can be watched and enjoyed by a variety of ages. We wanted to make sure to show Queer love to those coming of age.

Our stretch goal is $30,000. This will help pay for an amazing post production team, film festivals, and marketing material to help spread the word. Mattioli Productions has been able to distribute all of their work thus far and hopes that our track record helps prove that you will be able to see this in the future, so grab an incentive today!

As we know, Covid 19 is still happening. We wanted to let our audience know that all crew will be masked. It is a fully vaccinated set, and we will all be getting PCRs and rapid tests. We want everyone to be safe and healthy and will, as always, provide safe working conditions.

Risks and challenges

Making any film comes with risks, but making queer films comes with more than your average indie film. Corporate sponsors and investors often see making queer films as a risk to their wallets and how the public views them. This makes crowdfunding even more important, as many of you in our communit already know. Every cent you pledge helps diverse artists bring a queer project to life. Please grab an incentive to make a pledge today. Lets make Queer films by Queer artists!

About This Team

Who created "Twitterpated" ?

"Twitterpated" was written and will be Co-Directed by Cameron Cole (He/Him)and AJ Mattioli (He/Him). AJ Mattioli will also be working as the Producer and Mattioli Productions will act as the Production Company.

Cameron began writing this feature film adaptation of Cyrano back in 2015, when he was about 300 pounds. Whereas Cyrano uses a cartoonishly large nose to make its hero insecure, Cameron chose to make him hefty, something that he (and a lot of gay men) have been overlooked for being.  He continued to work the script over the years, finishing it in 2022, the same time that he also managed to work his way down to a much slimmer frame.

AJ Mattioli (Producer/Co-Director) Times Square Gossip; AJ "could very well be considered the voice of the LGBTQ community in the independent film world." AJ (He/Him) is a Queens born, Brooklyn based, Trans Producer/Director with 16+ years experience in the entertainment industry. His work has been celebrated at the Queens Museum, The United Nations, the NY Times, The Advocate, Huffington Post, Gay Star News, Go Magazine, and many others.

As the go-to Trans Producer for Queer filmmaking, he's worked with some of the hottest LGBTQ+ celebs, including Sasha Velour, Shakina Nayfack, Bob the Drag Queen, Cory Wade, Rain Dove, Vincent Depaul, Carmen Carrera, Miss Fame, and many more.

Who is the Production Company?

The film will be produced by Mattioli Productions, a trans owned and queer operated film production company. Other films from Mattioli Productions include Killer Unicorn, Neon Boys, Lady Peacock, and Words. Mattioli Distribution is working with numerous LGBTQ+ owned outlets as a part of their "keep your money rainbow" initiative. They stand with the BLM movement. A portion of profits go to charity.

We will be announcing cast members as the campaign goes on! For now we are happy to announce our MEAN GIRLS, Val and DeGuiche. Val and DeGuiche are besties, mean girls, plastics, & Heather of the worst kin; shallow and vain gay men who bully Charles for being heavy.

Charles will be played by Jason Coombs

DeGuiche will be played by Markus Kelle

Val will be played by Nathaniel Visneaskus
