Mission Statement
The Story
This small town in Pennsylvania is an amalgam of bucolic landscape, wholesome farmers, suburbia encroaching on countryside, and a healthy dose of "Dutch Country". A city girl returns to her roots and struggles to not only fit in but to reinvent herself. The pacing of the film escalates as time passes and our protagonist sets herself up for a hurricane in ACT III.
My aim is for the audience to find empathy for this scarred heroine. The more expected role of a libido-driven character has been flipped from male to female. The choices we make as humans come from complex thoughts, feelings, and past experience. Here we have a character that sees herself in a righteous light where the social norm would be to call her a home-wrecker. Though plagued by a cycle of misfortune, Amber finds the strength within to sacrifice her ego and selfish wants to become a real hero in the end. She risks everything including her life to save two innocent children.
I want to push the audience’s comfort level, daring them to live out their fantasies through voyeurism. UGLY PRETTY feels nostalgic and self-reflecting while simultaneously building tension to the point of eruption.
A young woman returns home to the family farm after being estranged for more than ten years. She is charged with the task of aiding her dying mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Amber’s good intentions are thwarted by disillusionment. Evading failed dreams of the Hollywood limelight she yearns for a simple family lifestyle.
Amber can’t shake the bad behavior that landed her in the tough spot she so abruptly fled. The small town rumor mill dredges up painful scars a’ la #metoo. This homecoming is destined for a wild upheaval.
A fiery affair unfolds between the newcomer and a local married man. Lust and obsession engulf the pair. Secrets can’t stay silent forever.
When a horrible accident occurs, Bill bullies his lover into bonding in a cover-up. Amber must find the strength to rise up, put the needs of others before herself and become a real hero.
To create this film we have a detailed budget and need $500,000 to fullfill it. We currently have promises for match donations if we reach our $20,000 goal here!!!! But we know we can do better than that with the support of film lovers like you. We hope to exceed our goal on S&S and heck maybe even reach 30K.

Leading Lady - Lindsey Shaw
Lindsey has been a working actress most of her life. She is most well-known for her roles in "Pretty Little Liars" and "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide". Her television career also includes roles in "Suburgatory", "Hers and History", "Faking it", "10 Things I Hate About You", and "Aliens in America". Hollis Sherman-Pepe - Writer/Director/Producer of "Ugly Pretty" wrote and produced her first award winning short film "Valediction" in 2012. She has since gone on to write, produce and direct a batch of equally exciting and decorated projects. Her awards include, Best Picture - 2018, Under 5 Feedback Film Fest; Best Experimental Film - 2017, California Women's Film Festival; Best First Time Filmmaker - 2014, Philadelphia Independent Film Festival to name a few. Hollis is actively co-writing a television pilot as well as writing a feature script "Right-Hand Man" featuring a young gay boy escaping a bad situation with his hapless but scrappy mother. ShaunPaul Costello - Producer is known for making waves in the Philadelphia film scene, having produced 36 short films in the past three years for Playhouse West. "Ugly Pretty" will be Costello's third feature film and most ambitious project. Jason Brewer - Cinematographer is a graduate of Brooks Institute with a BFA in cinematography. Brewer has had a multitude of cinematography nominations and has been shooting with Farmer's Daughter Productions since 2013 collaborating on five projects. He has worked with Don Cheadle, Oliver Hudson, Leon Russom, Nicki Minaj, and Ray Romano to name a few. His 2018 release "Midnighters" currently rates 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. Chloe Sherman-Pepe - Still Photography/Producer is a dedicated artist and a major asset on set. Chloe has a flourishing photography business and a degree in her field from The University of the Arts. In addition to her bread-and-butter photo work, she has been the Assistant Photo Editor for two parenting magazines, curated gallery exhibits, as well as creates her own fine art photography (as seen in the top incentive bracket). She did the behind the scenes photos for many of FDP's films and most of the photos you see throughout this campaign are her work. Damien Nemire-Pepe - Visual Effects & Titles Nemire-Pepe is a VFX and motion graphics artist with 15 years of experience. Both are graduates of Full Sail University and have brought their music production education to the film world. Aleks Malczewski - Associate Producer has been working with Farmers' Daughter Productions since 2016 as a production assistant, behind the scenes photographer, and as an actor. This will be the second feature film he has helped produce. Aleks is a photographer in Los Angeles and a passionate graphic designer.
Producers Hollis Sherman-Pepe and ShaunPaul Costello met in 2003 in Philadelphia where Sherman-Pepe was majoring in theater arts at The University of The Arts and Costello, was earning a cinematography degree at Temple University. Many years passed and in 2016 Hollis's mother reintroduced them when Costello shot a music video at their family farm. The two soon became colleagues and co-produced a comedy series called "Green Piece" which is being released by Funny or Die.
