Jace is a chronically anxious trans man struggling to keep a job, but determined to prove he's good at something. As he struggles through a disastrous first shift at a roadside diner under the watchful eye of his supportive BFF Lucy, and finds himself in forced proximity to his ex, Ezra, he tries to manage his increasingly public spirals. But when his panic appears to miraculously heal a customer, Jace becomes the center of a viral spectacle that may finally give him the sense of purpose he's been searching for.

Hi, I'm Amos! I've spent nearly two decades documenting trans lives through photography, publishing, documentary film, and television. From co-founding Original Plumbing magazine to writing and producing for tv on series like Gossip Girl, Clean Slate, and Gaycation, my work has always centered on expanding who gets to be seen and how. I believe every film is a collaboration, but I’ve been itching to make something that fully shares my voice and visual aesthetic on screen – to build a world from the ground up that feels like a fun, flawed fairytale told through a trans lens.

I made Unflappable because I'm fascinated by what happens when ordinary people suddenly become symbols for something bigger than themselves. And like our main character Jace, I'm anxious as hell!

Unflappable is a comedy rooted in identity, anxiety, small-town absurdity, and accidental holiness. Set in a run-down, angel-themed diner, this world mixes drab, nostalgic Americana with bright pops of color, campy religious iconography, and the oddballs who populate a town where the miraculous and ridiculous are never too far apart.

This is a story that lets trans and queer characters be funny, flawed, mean, and chaotic. It was built from the ground up by community, for community. As queer funding opportunities shrink and the industry gets more risk-averse, it’s becoming harder to get original stories like ours greenlit. So instead of waiting for a “yes” from an executive in a tower, we are looking to get a “yes” from YOU – the community who Unflappable was built for: queer and trans people, anxiety darlings, indie film lovers and their allies. 

I've spent a lot of time wishing I could turn my anxiety off. On the flip side, it’s responsible for some of my best ideas. Unflappable is about what happens when the thing you’d love to get rid of turns out to be some sort of superpower.

AMOS MAC (writer/director): As the co-founder of a magazine dedicated to the culture and community of trans men (deep cut Original Plumbing shoutout!), and a filmography that hits on coming-of-age narratives at any age, Unflappable is a clear next step for me as a writer/director. It’s a big creative swing into a surreal little world that I’m so excited to bring to your favorite film festival! As a Professional Trans Who Has Been Around™, I find inspo in the tension between desperately wanting to be seen while also being repulsed by the idea of being perceived. That contradiction is at the heart of our main character Jace, a guy looking to find the one thing he’s actually good at.

ZACKARY DRUCKER (executive producer): Zackary and I have been friends for close to 20 years, a friendship that began with a photographic collaboration in the dead of winter in Syracuse, NY – work that has been displayed in museums and galleries across the world. As a brilliant, Emmy Award-winning producer, director, and friend, I trust Zackary as a visionary, and her guidance and support on this project have been invaluable. 

CALLA (producer): Calla is a rising trans film producer and mentee of Zackary Drucker. I connected with Calla in early 2026 and bonded over their love of trans storytelling, indie publications and queer archives. With a background in event production/marketing and social content production, Calla brings a fresh perspective and dedicated network of collaborators and fans to the production.  

BETTI (producer): I met Betti through her collaborator Calla of YUQ Studios, but I’d been a fan of her work since seeing her on The Sex Lives of College Girls! Betti has a sharp eye for talent and story from her experience working both in front of and behind the camera as a trans woman in entertainment. She brings an invaluable perspective and wit to Unflappable.

OUR NETWORK: We have an established and extensive network of queer and trans creative collaborators to bring this project to life.

We’re raising $11,111 — yes, angel numbers, because apparently even our budget has committed to the bit — to cover the final costs of bringing Unflappable across the finish line.

The film has been shot! These funds support our POST-PRODUCTION TEAM – the artists who make a finished film actually feel finished: editing, color, sound mixing, original score, VFX, and key art. That means giving the film its final look, making every panic attack and awkward moment sound and look exactly as uncomfortable as intended, adding a little movie magic where we couldn’t make it happen in-camera due to unforeseen circumstances, and creating the artwork that will introduce Unflappable to audiences!
