The Story

If your phone went missing, who would you suspect... and why? That answer isn't always so obvious. "Until It's You" follows Paige Whitmore, a seemingly "woke" high school activist who spends prom night buried in her phone, obsessing over a social justice rally she has scheduled for the next day. When her phone goes missing, however, we begin to see the pitfalls of implicit bias and the negative impact it can have ... on even the most "woke" of us.

About Us
McGhie Productions strives to tell stories that spark change. Now, more than ever, we need to have conversations about the social climate in which we live. As artists, we find ourselves continuously asking the question "why?"... and if it stands true that "art immitates life" this means we must ask the same question when it comes to real situations. Why do we find ourselves in this current social climate? Why have we not achieved the change we want? Why does it feel like any progress towards a more equitable society is met with pushback and fear?

Here at McGhie Productions we beleive that in order to understand the "why's?" we must also ask the "what's?". What can we do, with the resources we have, to inspire meaningful conversations? Since research shows recognizing your own biases can make a significant impact in changing behaviors, in what ways can we encourage a deeper understanding of differring opinions and cultures? What stories can we tell to accurate reflect the world in which we live?

Directors Note
At McGhie Productions we like to start with ourselves. I was motivated to write this film after a moment of self realization. I found myself handling two very similar situations, very differently, due to my own implicit bias (and let's be real, we all have it in some shape or form). Thankfully, after checking in with the parties involved, my actions weren't harmful - but it raised the question... how deep do our unconscious biases run and how can we begin to overcome them? So I searched for the answer the only way I knew how, through storytelling.
When the concept of this film was conceived the team had many conversations about our own personal biases and discussed what steps we could take to overcome them. As a mixed race person, I continously try and challenge myself to see things from mulitple points of view. That challenge led me to have difficult but necessary conversations with my collaborators which directly impacted the development of the script. Our breakthroughs inspired us to challenge others to do the same. If we can each identify and accept biases that have been ingrained in us since childhood then we can begin to work towards a future in which these biases cease to exist. This is why it is the perfect time to make "Until It's You". It is our beleif that we not only need to spark these important conversations but also hold each and everyone person - regardless of race, gender, age religion or political affiliation - accountable in the most positive and creative way possible.
