Celebrating oneself in isolation is a complicated feeling. Rejecting it can be easy; it can be excused as humility or amity. Removing oneself from the equation. There can be a certain insecurity when a mind is in drought of balance but a heart filled with hope. That insecurity can make celebration feel like grief.

Venusian Abundance’s concept draws from the director's idea of throwing a 24-hour birthday party on her 24th birthday. The film's surrealistic style is an expression of the director's own relationship with mental illness, using daydreams and delusions to distract from the toll of emotional instability.

Our leading character is referred to as SHE/HER; she is a vessel for the audience, so she does not require a name. She dissociates into dreamscapes during emotional "flips".

She wakes at midnight on an undisclosed day, making the most of it before the clock strikes twelve again. On the surface, her day is slow and menial, but her dreams detail the subconscious motivations behind her emotional breakdowns.

The film allows the audience to experience this character's isolation, objectively and subjectively; her dreams and delusions show/speak more as to her "why" than words can express.

She is accompanied by THE FIGURE intermittently throughout the film. THE FIGURE seems to be an ominous and threatening force at first; however, the audience gradually opens up to the idea of THE FIGURE being more nuanced.

With a series of tableau-style scenes, montages, chaotic editing, and the intentional lack of expository conventions, Venusian Abundance explores the complexity of loneliness, the ambiguity of aging, and the delusions we conjure to make sense of them. It highlights a chosen solitude, a menial daily routine, and the brief moments taken to feel ok celebrating oneself. It can be lonesome yet provide solace in knowing that those who were never meant to be there aren’t.

Making this film comes from a journey of the last 5 years. In 2020, despite the accomplishments and worldly circumstances, I was told to leave my house and figure it out. So I did. While doing so, I first experienced the side effects of stoicism and suppression in the form of bipolar disorder II. With that diagnosis and while going through treatment, filmmaking has been an outlet to explore the person I am and become each day.

Who is she? What does she want? What does she deserve?

I implore my audience of the importance of the stories that are inexplicable or experiential.

Venusian Abundance explores how I experienced much of my own emotional disorientation. These episodes can be a daily occurrence, unexpected and unwarranted. Despite the external efforts to soothe those feelings, they don’t cease. When dealing with these episodes alone, while maintaining an evasive relationship with self-destruction, learning what I deserve and want without reaching out for it from others has become a fulfilling and challenging journey. 

We either choose to bury ourselves in the grave of isolation or learn to walk again amongst others in a new way. 

We began shooting already! We will wrap filming mid-October, including reshoots. We hope to offer a final cut by December 2026. The support received will be used on dream materials, things we haven’t already brought forth from our own collections, as well as offset costs for materials already acquired, such as Costuming and Production Design. As filmmakers from a spectrum of backgrounds, we pride ourselves on the production motto: it doesn’t matter what you have; it's about what you make with what you have.
