The Story

The Story of “Waiting For You” follows the story of Truman, a man both stuck in his own way and in the past when it comes to love. At a Christmas party, he must confront the worst of those flaws when he deals with Melody, his ex, and Vivian, his best friend, who has her own feelings for him.
One must come to terms with the past so as not to hurt themselves or others in the future.
A big thing we want to focus on with this project is the bonds we share with the people around us. Whether it's deeply personal or estranged, those bonds shape the kinds of people we are or become. Truman's story and development are contingent on Melody and Vivian. Both of these women have had a profound impact on him as a person, which he often undermines and misunderstands. In "Waiting for You", Truman will confront and acknowledge the culmination of those flaws during this very personal, nostalgic time through Melody and Vivian.
"Waiting for You" follows a core cast held together by a longing for what once was—three characters that reflect the thematic statement of the film, all in their own ways.

Our protagonist, Truman, is our most problematic fellow of the bunch. He is a man lacking in self-respect, who is overly sentimental, and above all, conflict-avoidant. He tries to maintain a "well-put-together" persona that breaks down as soon as he faces his own personal matters.
Then there is Vivian, one of Truman's oldest and closest friends. She is a realist and a straight shooter. While she mostly likes to keep to herself, she can read people like a book, especially those closest to her. She doesn't like dealing with other people's nonsense, but will gladly call them out on their "less-than-wise" behavior. And, as Truman will learn, Vivian also has some romantic feelings for him.
Last but certainly not least is Melody, Truman's Ex who he hasn't seen in 5 years. Melody is a very driven person who is very open and charismatic. She is someone who would rather move from place to place, taking on greater risks than being stuck and comfortable in one place. 5 years ago, she left the country for a job opportunity and has been pretty detached from everyone in her hometown.

A major aspect of this film we want to capture is the feel we have in different parts of the film. During moments that are meant to feel more nostalgic, we want the lighting and colors present to be warmer and the camera movement to feel more lively. Those times when Truman feels like things are as they used to be, in those moments, he finds the most comfort. However, when he has his reality checked and is forced to realize the present, the colors feel cold, and the camera movement is still. Capturing how Truman feels cornered and afraid when he's more melancholic.

Inspirations for this film can be seen in movies like Celine Song’s “Past Lives” and Michel Gondry’s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” which we believe are great examples of the tone and themes we are aiming to hit. Another “inspiration” for us was our feelings toward the traditional Hallmark “Christmas-Love-Story” in how it often weakens and sensationalizes the blandest, safest depictions of love. In a way, “Waiting For You” is our way of both fighting that Hallmark-y “Christmas-Love-Story” norm while also creating a story that gives the audience a sense of melancholy.

Our three important filming dates are rapidly approaching, and with your generous pledge, you can help bring our story from the written script to being projected on the big screen. Every pledge received will go towards several categories to support the overall production.
As seen in our wishlist, funding will be required in areas such as production design, location fees, catering for all cast and crew, equipment rentals, insurance costs, and film festival submission fees for many more eyes to see beyond our initial school screening. By helping make this film a reality, you're also eligible to receive incentives from our team with a donation of $15 or more! See our incentives tab for more details on all pledge opportunities!

Creating and screening this film as our goodbye to college is our priority goal, but with the amount of effort being put into "Waiting for You," we want to take this film beyond just the classroom. With your pledge, we will have the opportunity to submit this film to several film festivals, as we would like to screen our hard work to as many audiences possible! Not only will there be the chance to increase viewership, but festival submissions will allow us to potentially receive award nominations in the different film departments. After our film-festival circuit, "Waiting for You" will be uploaded to YouTube channel Surreal Studios, with the possibility of coming to other streaming platforms!
In other words, your pledge will be supporting the future filmmaking careers of all our crew members. We'd love nothing more than for this film to be the best it can possibly be in every single department, as "Waiting for You" will serve as a key major stepping stone into the film industry for all of us filmmakers.
This project means a lot to all of us involved. We are going to work our butts off to make this a real thing by any means, but the contribution you may or may not have given means that task becomes easier. If you watched the video and/or read all of this, thank you. Even if you don't donate, that's perfectly fine; all we then ask is to please help us spread the word. Not to sound like a broken record, but from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
