Walk-Ons (Comedy Sketch)
Los Angeles, California | Film Short
Comedy, Sport
You've heard of the coaches, the star players, but not the walk-ons! Every football team has a practice squad full of average-joes that show up for the love of the game, and their job is as unforgiving as it is hilarious. This sketch is a fictional night in the life of football's unsung heroes.

The Story
It's come to my attention that many sports fans don't know what a walk-on is. Picture the human-shaped tackling dummies at karate dojos, except instead of angry preteens taking out their frustrations, these dummies suffer the wrath of the biggest, strongest, meanest athletes in America.
Butt at least they get the glory of playing in front of hundreds of thousands of fans, right? Wrong. Walk-ons very rarely get in the game.
But at least they get a scholarship, right? Free college? Wrong. Walk-ons actually pay full tuition for the honor to join the team.
Pretty sweet deal, eh?
So who would be foolish enough to choose such a life?
Well, for starters, me. I was that foolish. And the moment I joined the University of Texas football team as a walk-on player, I immediately saw the potential to explore this world in a TV series. There's heart, humor, found family, and a hell of a lot of antics. "The bottom of the top" we liked to call it.
With this sketch, we aim to make a short proof of concept to showcase the vast potential of this idea to networks and studios, so that we can bring the hilarious world of walk-ons into homes around America. Your donations will directly contribute to bringing these characters to life for all to see, and hopefully to convince the decision makers that they're worth making a TV show about! The scripts are written, the crew and actors are on board, we just need to shoot it!

The sketch follows four of our walk-ons and one of their coaches on a night leading up to a bowl game, basically the most fun week of the season. The team spends the week before the game in New Orleans partying and (barely) practicing. While the other players are out on the town, our underage walk-ons are trying to decide what they can get into, and what they can get away with. As they struggle to make a decision, the opportunity of a lifetime is presented to them...

About This Team
Jack Geiger (Writer/Director)
Jack is a former college football player and lifelong athlete that uses his successes (but more often his failures) in sports to create authentically crafted worlds in both the TV and Feature space. When he’s not reliving his glory days, Jack works as a Literary Coordinator and Creative Executive at a production company, where he spends his days developing feature scripts and trying to figure out how the hell Hollywood works. As a writer, Jack has written award-winning short films, pilots for emmy-winning producers as well as production companies with over a $1 billion earned at the box office.
Ben Fox (Producer)
Ben has worked in film and TV since 2018. A Maryland native whose love of stories led him to hide books under his desk during math class, he first realized he could translate that love into an actual job while at Syracuse University, where a required film production class led him to pursue a career as a producer. He plans on creating art until the inevitable day when the AI bots take over the world.
Ian Gibson (DP)
Ian is a filmmaker, DP, editor and colorist based in the Los Angeles area. Growing up in Texas as a skateboarder, he was initially drawn into the world of filmmaking through skate videos. He later earned a degree in Radio Television and Film from The University of Texas at Austin. He has since worked all over the Unites States on a myriad of different projects, including the award-winning documentary "Humanity Stoked." He has also worked on projects for Nike, Tribeca, and What Stops You.
Kate Klausner (1st AD)
Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Kate started working on her school news at 13 and never looked back. A USC Film School alum, she is based out of Los Angeles when she’s not producing Almost Friday YouTube content, she’s writing her comedy newsletter, seeing a lot of stand up, and greeting the dogs on her neighborhood walks. She likes flaunting her AMC Stubs membership, Pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and making people laugh. She hopes to incorporate all of the above into her work onscreen.
Sean Aversa (Co-writer / Script Supervisor)
After graduating from Temple University’s Film & Media Arts program, Sean moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a career in filmmaking. With experience in screenwriting and producing, Sean has worked in development for the past two years at Zero Gravity Management. Recently, Sean’s feature screenplay Gone placed at the Austin Film Festival in the drama feature category & his horror feature Hallows Eve was named an official selection at the HorrOrigins Film Festival.
