A personal documentary seeking to capture the improvisational genius of saxophonist, Warne Marsh, considered by some to be one of the greatest improvisers of all time, as told by his son K.C. Marsh. It examines the price of genius while reconciling a man’s musical legacy with his personal failings.

Story
About The Project
As the son of a great and underappreciated Jazz musician I feel duty bound to tell my father's story and compelled to explore our own relationship while doing so. I'm in a unique position to have easy access to the many great musicians he worked with and have had candid coversations with many of them about my father's personal qualities, both positive and negative.
I truly believe that it's my duty to present my father's talent to a larger audience. His was a unique talent and there are few artists who acheived his improvisational abilities which he spent a lifetime honing. That said I also feel strongly that there is an audience that will respond to this story on a completely different level than musical appreciation. That is the father/son story and my personal struggle with idolatry of my father while struggling with a sense of abandonment as he time and time again put music above all else. He could have been any work-a-holic father of any profession, putting work before parenting and family.
I also feel like the time is ripe for this story. On 10/31/14 the L.A. Jazz Institute is doing a 3 day concert series including a panel and tribute concert dedicated to my father. I will be there filming and capturing this historic event. More and more people are discovering his work and I have so many fantastic and insightful interviews to shed light on his musical legacy and very personal family interviews that shed light on the cost of supporting an artist in their pusuit of virtuosity.

Combining all of his talents, K.C. currently works as an Associate Producer with Walt Disney Imagineering, Research & Development.
