Mission Statement

Our team is primarily made up of people of color. We see a lack of representation in the exploration of marriage through this lens. Our crew will be at least 50% female. Support us to increase & amplify representation on screen & behind the camera. Let’s do all that together while laughing!

The Story

Karla and Lawrence enjoyed working together as the married and divorced, then MARRIED and DIVORCED AGAIN, Remy and Christina on the soap opera Guiding Light. Lawrence was three years into his marriage, and Karla was about to get married. Creatively exploring the plight of newlyweds on screen, and going through it off screen made Karla and Lawrence very sensitive to the realities of marriage; both the challenges and the adventures…At the time, the underrepresentation of POCs was alarming, so in 2009,  Karla and Lawrence created Wed-Locked as a means of having their VOICES AND EXPERIENCES BE HEARD.

Today representation in media is slowly changing with the help of supportive audiences and content creators. Our team wants to seize this time in history to share our perspective. It seems evermore appropriate, resonant and necessary. Now, after years of being in relationships and experiencing REAL challenges, Lawrence and Karla feel they have much more to add to the story. And this time, it's not just Lawrence and Karla’s perspective. Our very diverse team consists of our co-directors Tina Huang and Malcolm Barrett. They add a very unique perspective as people of color, as well as representing both the feminine and masculine. The newlywed on the team is producer, Tricia Levesque, who helps refresh our insight of what it’s like to embark on this journey.

Our Hope is to ditch the romanticism of marriage and shine a light on the love. We think it’s important to reflect back to society a loving, healthy, and functioning relationship despite all the challenges that marriage can bring.

OUR CAMPAIGN GOAL is $12,000.00, which covers paying our awesome crew (properly), production, as well as post-production, and festival submissions. We are just beginning to fundraise so that we can be ready for our shoot in June 2017. We know. It's soon. But, as in any good marriage, we are up for the challenge...

Here's the budget breakdown:

Crew                             $6,000.00
Equipment/Locations   $1,000.00
Set/Props/Permits         $1,000.00
Post Production            $3,000.00
Festival Submissions    $1,000.00

GOAL TOTAL           $12,000.00

Check out our Campaign Wishlist if you want to know more about each Goal Budget line item.

And since believe so deeply in Wed-Locked, we’re ready with your help to blow our Goal out of the water. Check out this upgraded, sophisticated, sexified budget. Here’s what happens when we meet our Stretch Goals:

If we receive $20k we can breathe easy. Production costs have a pesky way of creeping above budget. $20k lets us know that we will be definitely meet all of our production AND post-production costs.

If we receive $25k we can hire the dancing girls! Not really. But this little budget boost will allow us to secure the locations and equipment that will make Wed-Locked  look supa dupa dope.

If we receive $30k+ we can MAKE MORE WED-LOCKED! Lawrence and Karla already have scripts for more episodes. This will allow us to re-invest your funds into the next season.
