WHY
When the world needs strong leaders teaching the values and skills to educate, uplift, and inspire our youth to the be best men and women possible, Detroit based filmmaker, Sultan Sharrief, has stepped up. After his film, "Bilal's Stand", premiered at Sundance Film Festival he continued his work by growing educational youth programming in and around Detroit. He is now changing the world by using emerging technology to give the underrepresented youth a voice.
PRESENT
After years of mentoring students, Sharrief's team won a $100K pitch competition from Black Public Media to turn that youth program into a reality show. And thus, "Street Cred" was born.
Street Cred' follows 8 Detroit youth as they work through personal challenges, get mentored by celebrity judges, and produce and direct a Virtual Reality short film. More than a reality show, Street Cred' goes deep into the lives of Black, Brown, and LGBTQI youth and highlights how their intersectional identities create challenges and opportunities in storytelling.
WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING? HOW YOU CAN HELP?
This project started as a 1 hour pilot and turned into 3 years worth of footage. In fall 2017, we received a $42K Detroit Knight Arts matching challenge grant to tour our interactive VR film, When It All Changed, to high schools around Detroit and the country.

Every dollar we raise here will be matched by our Knight grant. WE NEED YOUR HELP to finish the VR film, document the rest of our amazing journey and submit our project to Sundance Film Festival! *ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
