Chris, a recovering drug addict, is given the opportunity to spend the day with his adolescent daughter, Lizzie. But he struggles to roll with the punches as their day gets increasingly more out of hand.

Director's Statement

Where Do We Go? is a very personal story to me. Before the pandemic, I was working as a bartender. When the lockdown happened I lost my job and began delivering food for Door Dash. Like everyone else, I thought it would last a couple months and I'd get back to work, but every day my anxiety rose. Driving around the city, barely making ends meet, and running into absurd situations and odd conversations inspired me to make a film about my experiences. I tend to write about my fears. While delivering food, I thought about a worse situation. What if I wasn't with my wife? What if we had a child that I wasn't able to provide for? These are the fears that inspired this story.
VISUAL STYLE
Our visual style comes from Italian Neorealism films of the 40s and 50s. We'll be shooting our film on location with naturalistic lighting and documentary style camera movement. Along with the Neorealism, we are also highly influenced by many absurdist movies and tv shows from various eras. We plan to blend these two styles to give a comedic and heightened, yet realistic dramatic piece. The last few years have felt like we've been living in a bizarre reality. A reality where a reality tv show host can become the president of our country, a movie-like virus took over the world, and where the seemingly wide gap of misunderstanding throughout different age groups occur.
After Hours (1985)
Bicycle Thieves (1948)
Ramy (2019-)
Daddy Longlegs (2009)
INFLUENCES
Where Do We Go? is inspired by Neo-Realism films like Bicycle Thieves, Daddy Longlegs, and Blue Valentine as well as Absurdist comedies such as After Hours, Atlanta, and Ramy. Growing up, I would stay up after bedtime and watch mid 2000s Adult Swim shows like Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job, Metalocalypse, and Robot Chicken. The bizarre sense of humor these shows portrayed shaped my sense of humor, and my love for out-of-the-box stories has only grown with age. The older and more "mature" I got, the more I started watching serious movies like Bicycle Thieves, La Strada, The 400 Blows, The Place Beyond the Pines, and The Florida Project. I believe that both of these styles can blend seemlessly. Even if our day to day can seem mundane and uneventful, there are moments that don't feel quite right and that's what I want to explore. The moments in real life that feel surreal.
