Wanda moved to New York to chase the good old days - but now her best friend might be secretly homeless. An original film about the New York of now, we’d love your help to capture the world we came of age in, one that hasn’t ever been put onscreen, before it’s gone.

Mission Statement

It’s hard to get a foot on the ladder these days - talented, skilled people work and work and don’t know if they’ll ever progress towards their dreams. Making DAISY is our way of taking that into our own hands. If the ladder is broken…well, we’ll jump up and grab the fire escape.

The Story

Wanda Mitchell’s dream is ABOUT TO COME TRUE…

At age 27, Wanda moves to New York to live with her two best friends from college, Tiffany Canfield and Daisy Han. It's all gonna be great again! She's gonna go back to the good old days, she's gonna be brimming with potential, they’ll be together, they’ll-

But then Tiffany doesn’t pick her up from the airport. She didn’t just forget - she was with a new boyfriend, Brett, who she’s never even mentioned to Wanda. And Daisy? Daisy has moved out suddenly, with no warning.

Wide-eyed and innocent, Wanda begins to suspect there’s more going on. Daisy has been showing up to every event in the same clothes, carrying the same overstuffed hiker’s pack. Could she be secretly homeless? Is Wanda the only person who cares enough to find out?

As Wanda investigates, she’ll struggle to pay her bills, meet an older man with unclear intentions and begin to face the big question:

Is she adult enough for all this?

DAISY will make you feel like you’re NOSTALGIC FOR A TIME THAT’S JUST PASSED.

DAISY will avoid the soft-focus look of so many other indies, preferring instead to embrace deeper focus and careful compositions that use blocking to tell the story. It’ll be shot in today’s New York, on location, and embrace a naturalistic sense of sound - if a truck honks in the distance, that’s not a problem. It’s free sound design.

This is a story about people who chase away loneliness by scrolling - the style of the film will reflect that, embracing elements of iPhone cinematography while marrying them to scrappy East Village indies like SMITHEREENS and the expressive camera-work of films like THE THIRD MAN.

The result? Something that feels unique to itself, not quite like any other movie.

Our team have worked on shows that received 50 EMMY AND 24 GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS.

The six producers of DAISY are old friends from college, people who worked on TV shows together, even a couple. But we’re united in our goal of making this movie, of showing you what we’re capable of given the opportunity. That’s one of the goals of DAISY: to make our own opportunity. That's why this is a NonDē film.

We’re also part of the communities the film is about. DAISY takes place largely in New York’s East Village - two of us have lived blocks from Tompkins Square Park for over five years. It’s also a story about people who are coming of age, figuring out who they really are as adults, as friends - you know, something we all did together. Something that, some days, we're still doing.

We’re the right team for this movie because part of the point is to capture our New York, the one we came of age in. We can’t wait to share it with you.

We’re GLAD YOU ASKED.

DAISY has a locked script, a stellar team (please click over to our ‘The Team’ page - they’re worth it!), a schedule, a budget, several key locations secured, partners and vendors who'd like to work with us - and we’ve made plans for much, much more.

What we need now is your support - to make sure we can hire actors from the incredible pool of talent in New York, to make sure we can secure remaining locations, to make sure we can rent gear, to cover food and transportation for an incredible cast and crew.

We all have a track record of working on high-quality, exciting, artistically driven projects and we're well aware of the risks, pitfalls and difficulties - we’ve experienced most of them! We’re dedicated to surmounting those difficulties - and we're dedicated to making DAISY great.

In short? We want to make something special. We’d love for you to be part of it.

About This Team

Alex Bailey (Writer/Director/Producer) was an Assistant Producer and Showrunner’s Assistant on FX’s Emmy-nominated FLEISHMAN IS IN TROUBLE and has worked as a director's assistant on two seasons of Netflix's THE DIPLOMAT, including one episode nominated for a 2026 DGA Award. He’s evaluated over 1,500 screenplays as a reader for The Black List and publishes a weekly Substack, DIY Golems, about film, TV, storytelling and writing. WHERE DOES DAISY GO WHEN SHE’S NOT WITH US? is his first feature film.

Nia Dawson (Cinematographer/Producer) got her start working on TV shows including FLEISHMAN IS IN TROUBLE and GODFATHER OF HARLEM. She later spent a few years at one of the leading camera rental houses in Los Angeles as a Senior Prep Tech, where she developed a strong interest in camera systems and visual storytelling. Nia has moved through the ranks, working as a loader, camera assistant, camera operator and, ultimately, a cinematographer on a wide range of projects. Today, she co-leads a filmmaking duo and runs her own production company, Verse Productions, where she continues to shape dynamic stories through her lens.

Rhys Lewis (Producer) got her start in development at Left/Right (THE NEW YORK TIMES PRESENTS; THE ZOO; Showtime's THE CIRCUS) before making the jump to producing full time. She has produced true-crime and sports-driven series for ESPN+, A&E and Peacock, and her credits include an untitled true crime pilot for Hulu, RUNNING WITH THE WOLVES (ESPN+), LADY OF THE DUNES (Oxygen), TRYOUTS (ESPN+) and the upcoming SCOTT PETERSON: THE NEW EVIDENCE (A&E).

Maryana Nikolin (Producer) is an emerging film producer whose career began on acclaimed series such as MADAM SECRETARY (CBS), POWER (Starz) and MR. ROBOT (USA). She went on to join the production of HOMELAND (Showtime), an experience that took her across the globe - from Richmond and Los Angeles to Budapest, Casablanca, and beyond. Throughout her career, Maryana has honed her craft alongside accomplished executive producers and most recently served as Associate Producer on two HBO series, TASK and LANTERNS. WHERE DOES DAISY GO WHEN SHE’S NOT WITH US? marks her feature film debut.

Lauren Schoneman (Producer) is a filmmaker who’s spent the past decade moving between development and production, beginning her career as an executive assistant to Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas (President, Nuyorican Productions) and John Davis (CEO, Davis Entertainment). During this time, she worked in development across projects ranging from network television, like NBC's THE BLACKLIST, to feature films like GAME NIGHT and THE PREDATOR. Wanting to be more directly involved in the filmmaking process, she transitioned into production, working as a coordinator at Rotten Science on HBO specials for Dan Soder and Lil Rel Howery, and later assisting directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris on the sets of FX’s FLEISHMAN IS IN TROUBLE and Apple TV’s STICK. She now co-leads Verse Productions, where she works as a creative director and producer.

Jed Thompson (producer) is a former theoretical physicist, museum docent, local radio host and current trader. WHERE DOES DAISY GO WHEN SHE’S NOT WITH US? is his first feature film.
