The Story
Luna has severe ADHD, but she doesn’t know it yet. On this chaotic day, all of her symptoms will be put to the test. From sensory overload to social anxiety, Luna has to marathon sprint through the most stressful shift at her dead-end job and navigate through a highly-irritable LA house party. The clock is ticking as the midnight deadline for a life-altering art fellowship grows closer. But Luna's neurodivergent brain is her own worst enemy and it will ensure that everything falls apart today.

THE TONE
“WHY AM I LIKE THIS?” represents one of the most common mental illnesses in the world. It poses the question: What if all of your self-doubt and supposed flaws that weighed you down your entire life are actually the result of a common illness?
Luna's head is a roller coaster of the senses and we intend to strap you into the front row to witness the turbulent world of ADHD, using razor-sharp editing, cinematic 5.1 mixed sound, and cerebral moments that will remind you of your own humanity. The erratic editing style of jump cuts and cutaways will reflect Luna's scrambled sense of space and time.

And because Luna is an illustrator, her subconscious will appear in the form of an animated sequence, blending live action and 2D characters to elevate the fever dream of her day.
Equal parts comedy, equal parts drama, “Why Am I Like This?” was inspired by quirky, offbeat films such as “Punch Drunk Love," and "Ingrid Goes West," with the dynamic visual style of an Adam McKay film. An ADHD story leans itself organically toward showcasing every sensory element of film and as a result, we hope to make you feel every feeling in your bones. And as Luna discovers her diagnosis, we hope that this film will inspire others to explore their own mental health and realize that they are not alone on this journey of awareness.

THE PLAN
We are currently in the pre-production phase and upon hitting our goal, we plan to kick off production in late October. Your donations will cover the cost of production and post-production, so that we can pay our crew their competitive rates. Because this film is all about the senses, a proper budget will cover the cost of a professional 5.1 mix and a top notch camera department to accurately depict the ADHD experience.
Once we have a completed film, our strategy is to use the short as a proof of concept for the feature film and pilot vision of Luna's overall ADHC journey. And of course, a festival run will be in order to help generate interest among the indie filmmaking community.
OUR WORK
Our shared experience spans across features, shorts, music videos, documentaries and branded content. Take a look at director Andres Rovira's reel below for a feel of what our film will look like. With your help, we can bring the same premium quality to Luna's story.
