Mission Statement

Our mission is to create the first-ever wild ice figure skating film - one that inspires athletes at all stages and empowers anyone seeking a new path. By telling a story of rediscovery and reinvention, we aim to spark courage in those ready to redefine their dreams.

The Story

THE JOURNEY

Wild Ice: Redefining a Dream is a performative, participatory documentary that follows retired Team USA figure skater Angelina Huang on her journey to Alaska, where she hopes to skate on a glacier beneath the aurora and reconnect with the sport and part of herself she thought she had lost.

After stepping away from the competitive world that once defined her, Angelina discovered wild ice: the raw, unpredictable beauty of skating on frozen natural surfaces. In chasing the first freeze, she began to rediscover the freedom and joy that sparked her love for skating as a child. What began as healing turned into a dream to merge her artistry with nature in a once in a lifetime moment under the Northern Lights.

This is the world’s first wild ice figure skating film; story of resilience, emotional reckoning, and personal transformation. As Angelina confronts the inner and outer challenges of this journey, her experience parallels the often unspoken trauma many athletes carry beyond their competitive careers. Through her vulnerability and strength, the film shines a light on the freedom, identity, and purpose that can exist outside the rink.

WHY NOW?

The Wild Ice Community is a vibrant and rapidly growing niche. The sport has been increasingly talked about after creators and individuals across industries (photography, videography, figure skating, glacier traversing, extreme winter hiking, ice climbing, and more), and has been gaining increasing popularity since 2021 digitally. Both Angelina and Danielle have grown large followings from visuals captured on wild ice, with over a 500% increase in viewership each year over the past 4 years. There are eyes on the sport right now, and we want to be the first to film a Wild Ice Figure Skating Documentary that shares the value of natural landscapes, athleticism, and the community it creates.

WHY US?

Angelina is a competitive individual and lifelong athlete. She is one of few that has had the opportunity to represent her country and sport at an elite level. The challenges and lessons that come with this path can only be shared from a first-person account, and there is no stronger advocate for self-discovery, healing and reinvention while staying true to yourself. She uses her creative voice to share experiences and lessons learned through wild ice with the world, and is an ambassador for increasing awareness on mental health in the figure skating community. She has been invited to several events to speak to young skaters about her career and rediscovering her love for skating now, proving that skating is for everyone.

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR - DANIELLE

Since I started working in the creative industry over a decade ago, I always knew it was a goal of mine to make a film. A goal that felt somewhat out of reach until I met Angelina.

We met after connecting through the wild ice community, and she reached out to skate together on a trip to Canada. Over dinner that evening, she pitched the idea for a wild ice film that she had been trying to get off the ground for over 4 years. We didn't realize at the time how much of a dream this partnership would become.

Angelina has inspired me immensely in the short time we've known each other, and I am honored that she trusted me to bring this deeply personal story to light. Working on this project has already healed parts of myself, and I know it will connect with each skater, athlete and individual who sees it.

We cannot wait to share this with the world.

With love and thanks,

Danielle Eagleson

A NOTE FROM ANGELINA

Subject, Executive Producer

Since the moment I first stepped onto wild ice, I dreamed of creating the first-ever wild ice figure skating documentary. With my background in film and a deep love for this raw form of skating, I’ve always felt I was meant to bring this vision to life. This project is something I’ve been quietly working on for the past four years and have poured my life and soul into.

This film is about allowing yourself to return on your own terms. I walked away from competitive skating because I no longer recognized the sport I once loved. Through a journey of pain, healing, and rediscovery, I found my way back to the ice in a way that felt true to me. I want young skaters to know that there is life beyond competition. And for anyone watching, I hope this film is a reminder that it’s okay to pivot, evolve, and find beauty in a different version of your story.

Wild ice represents that freedom. It’s fleeting, vast, and untouched. I'm honored that Danielle felt compelled to tell my story and grateful to be the subject of this dream of mine.

With all the love,

Angelina Huang
