Mission Statement

Death has been part of my life since I was young. From grandparents to best friends, grief has taught me to grow from loss. This coming of age screenplay is an honest and visual way of portraying that living your own life, is the best way to honour your roots, your family, and where you came from.

The Story

This film is about a teenager who finds himself through fulfilling his Grandfather's final wishes.

As they speed out of the driveway, Grandpa is thrilled by the adventure ahead, but Kevin’s anxiety stands in the way of his own enjoyment.

They go through adventures and misfortunes where, with Grandpa's wise advise, Kevin navigates his anxiety, the rocky relationship with his mother, and faces the real-life difficulties of being an adult.

"My mother told me I cried in her womb.

They told her I'd be lucky.

Someone spoke to me every day of my life. In my ear, softly, they said: “live, live, live!”

It was death."

-Jaime Sabines

Why me? Why this?

Grief has been my faithful companion through most of the important stages of life, it has made sure I made the most of them, and that I follow the path that I want for myself.

Grief is the ultimate teacher about life. It keeps you grateful. It’s the bittersweet way of making us grow from loss. And it's not only about being grateful for being alive, but being grateful for the people you get to share that life with.

So with this short coming of age screenplay, I found an honest and visual way of portraying that living your own life is the best way to honor your roots, where you came from, and those who are not here anymore.

The Cast

Rod McTaggart plays Grandpa, a wise, stubborn but kind man with a hint of cynicism.

"This story touched me, I have grandchildren coming to that age, and the writing on this is poignant. It rang true for me."

Tommy Schoenith plays Kevin, an anxious teenager with a rocky relationship with his mother. Means well.

"Throughout the last couple years I've been doing a lot of teenage-buddy stuff, and having the opportunity to relate to a more dramatic situation, with my grandpa for example, is very special."

The Goal

The $6,000 goal of this campaign will cover the absolute minimum we need in order to get through production, however, post-production & distribution would incur in significant, additional spending.

That's why we don't want to stop there. In order to get the best final product and be able to submit it to the largest possible audience, our goal is to keep pushing the envelop and stretch out goal.

An ideal budget of $10,000 would allow us to pay people more fairly, and submit the project to the prominent festivals it deserves to be a part of.

Where You Come In

This film is an emotional roller-coaster, and it's all about a journey. We'd love you to join us on this journey to help make it a reality.

No matter how big or small your contribution is, you will get something back. And I don't only mean campaign rewards, of which we have several, but in becoming part of our film community, having the satisfaction of seeing this project come to life, and knowing it was thanks to you.
