The Story

Julie, a young woman seeking a fresh start, leaves New York behind for the tranquil shores of Northeast Maine to reconnect with a lost love, Noa.
As she begins to work at a local theater, she befriends a local, Trent. This newfound friendship with her coworker soon complicates things after he encourages Julie to take his recently-become-ex-girlfriend, Erin, on a date, unknowingly disrupting the delicate balance of their friendship while jeopardizing Julie's rekindling romance with Noa.
As emotions swirls and loyalties are tested, Julie finds herself caught in a complex love triangle, torn between evolving feelings for Erin and the lingering spark she still shares with Noa.
Our indie short film follows Julie, a young woman who moves to Maine to rekindle her relationship with her nonbinary partner, Noa. As Julie tries to navigate this fragile reunion, she becomes entangled in the unraveling relationship of her friend and coworker, Trent, who asks her to step in and help save his relationship by taking his girlfriend out for him. The film explores themes of love, miscommunication, and the complex emotions that arise when relationships—both new and old—are tested by secrets and the blurred boundaries of modern life.

A native of North Carolina, Julie settled in New York City after undergrad. The fast paced lifestyle being intense for someone like her, she eventually loses her job after the startup she is working for goes belly up. In the wake of this as well as crumbling relationships around her, she takes up the offer of a good friend and ex, Noa, who invites Julie to stay at their place in Maine.

A blast from the past. Julie’s on and off again lover from New York who decided to escape the city after inheriting property in coastal Maine from deceased relatives. The grueling isolation causes them to reach back out to Julie, after noticing a plea for housing on her Instagram story. The two get back together, this time with things feeling good between the two. Less distractions. For now.

Julie’s younger coworker. A Maine local, naive to the larger world, he has rarely ever left his bubble. This makes Julie his portal into a world much different than his own, and he quickly becomes platonically enamored with her - so much so, that he confides some deep feelings to her about his girlfriend, and beseeches her to help him.

Trent’s girlfriend, or ex girlfriend, depending on who you ask. Home before heading back to school to round out her higher education. She is having a hard time breaking the news to Trent that she desperately wants to move on, so she is looking for some other way to tell him.

In the advent of the digital age and the midst of social media takeover, we have all personally felt it harder to forge and maintain relationships. Seventy three percent of our generation, Generation Z, report feeling alone sometimes or always, and we're in the midst of not only a loneliness epidemic, but a connection one as well.
Worst Behavior emerged from these feelings and experiences, a story both highly specific to the modern era and deeply universal. Through Julie, Noa, Trent, and Erin's decisions, we see our own worst impulses reflected on the screen. We are pushed to reckon with just how harmful it can be, to others and ourselves, to treat relationships with others as disposable and replaceable.
We hope that "Worst Behavior" serves as a candid and emotional representation of what can happen when we let social media, selfishness, and the "always- something - better" philosophy take over our personal relationships. If this film can serve as a mirror during this time of deep loneliness and loss for our generation, maybe it can also prompt us to treat each other with more much needed humanity.

We’ve already shot the film in its entirety with an incredibly dedicated and talented crew. This project was made possible by a small, tight-knit team of professionals, all of whom gave up personal comfort, invested significant time, and poured their hearts into the film. Despite numerous challenges, from logistical hurdles to long hours, our team met each obstacle with creativity, collaboration, and a communal passion for bringing this story to life.
Now, we’re seeking finishing funds to cover the costs of post-production, including payment for our skilled editor and composer, as well as to recoup some of the sacrifices made along the way. With your help, we can polish this film and share it with the world, celebrating the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
GOAL: $10,000 TO COVER POST PRODUCTION FEES, FESTIVAL ENTRY COSTS, SCREENING FEES, AND ROLLOVER PRODUCTION COSTS
While this crowdfunding campaign is running, our editor and composer are already hard at work firming up the cut and music. Once this campaign is over, we should be ready to move onto to color correction, sound design, and sound mixing / mastering. Our goal is to have the film ready to submit to festivals by February 1, 2025, with an anticipated release of early summer 2025 (depending on festival admissions). Besides our private screenings for donors, friends, and family, we plan to have "Worst Behavior" up online in some way, for all to see, by the end of 2025.
STRETCH GOALS
Our $10,000 goal is the bare minimum needed to finish this project in a way that is fair to our collaborators and sets the film up for the best success!
If we raise $12,000, we will be able to have contingency funds in place in case anything goes wrong, as well be able to pay our editor, composer, and colorist a slightly larger fee, which is more consistent with the market value of their work.
If we raise $14,000, we will be able to contract a professional post sound mixing and mastering house to make sure our film's sound is top notch!
If we raise $16,000, we will be able to pay our director and lead producer a small token of thanks for their out of pocket investments in the film, as well as throw a small cast and crew party for our amazing, talented team!
