Eligibility

BLACK&SEXY TV is looking for authentic and engaging stories in any genre for, by, and about people of the African Diaspora. Your voice should be so strong, creative, and distinct, that it leaps off the page and screen. Your characters should be organically beautiful and flawed black people we know and others we have yet to discover. Be boldly black. Be effortlessly sexy.
Color Farm Media is looking for projects in all genres that are smart, provocative, and elevate a theme with societal and cultural implication. Color Farm Media will select one winning film that it will executive produce, and will work with the filmmaker(s) to develop the project into a feature film or television project. Erika Alexander will also provide mentorship to the winning filmmaker(s).

You in? Here’s what comes next.

1. Launch campaign
Submit a crowdfunding campaign for a series on Seed&Spark by August 17, 2018. Opt into Keep It Colorful when submitting your campaign. Note that your campaign must be approved for launch by 5 pm PST on August 31, 2018 to launch with this rally. Read about our process. All campaigns will launch at 9 am PST on September 4, 2018 and end at 9 pm PST on October 4, 2018.
2. Build & engage your audience
To qualify for prizes, you must 100% of your crowdfunding goal in funds (loans do not count toward this) and gather minimum of 500 campaign followers. There is no minimum goal amount. Followers include all contributors, as well as anyone who clicks “follow” from your campaign page to receive your email updates.
3. Finalist pitch
Once you are an eligible finalist (minimum of 100% raised in funds (not loans) and at least 500 followers), you’ll have 10 days to post a 30-second video update telling BLACK&SEXY TV and Color Farm Media how you would use the cash grant and production partnership in your project.
Winners will be selected at the discretion of BLACK&SEXY TV and Color Farm Media. All winners will be announced in late October 2018.
You can also join us for live Keep It Colorful events around the country this summer!

FAQ

What types of projects are eligible?

This rally is for series of any genre by creators of color.

Does the project have to be ready to go into production?

Not at all! You should be raising money towards the production of a series pilot (if short form) or teaser (if long form). The purpose is to start building your audience and to advance your project to the next phase.

When should I submit and launch my campaign on Seed&Spark?

You can submit your project as soon as you want, but you must submit by August 17, 2018 at the latest for the feedback process. This allows enough time for our crowdfunding specialists to review your campaign and provide personalized feedback. Your campaign must be approved for launch by 5 pm PST on August 31, 2018.

How long will the Keep It Colorful crowdfunding campaigns run?

All participating campaigns will launch at 9 am PST on September 4, 2018, and end at 9 pm PST on October 4, 2018.

What happens after the crowdfunding ends?

The end of your campaign is just the beginning! If you get the green light (raise 80% of your goal), we begin to transfer the funds and you get to work fulfilling incentives, updating your supporters and making your project.

If you raise at least 100% of your goal (in cash, not including loans) and have a minimum of 500 campaign followers, you'll have 10 days to submit your pitch materials for the BLACK&SEXY TV and Color Farm Media prizes. (Don't worry, we'll email you all those details when you become eligible.) And of course, the funds will be transferred, you'll fulfill your incentives and (most importantly!) be one giant step closer to making your film!

When will the finalists be announced?

Colorful crowdfunding Rally finalists will be announced on October 8, 2018.

When will the winners be announced?

All winners will be announced and notified in late October 2018.

Are there still benefits if I don’t win?

The answer is a big, fat YES! ALL filmmakers who gather 250 or more followers are eligible for Seed&Sparks Filmmaker Rewards, worth over $9,000 in production, post, distribution and marketing perks, as well as festival fee waivers. More importantly, by raising funds and gathering an audience on Seed&Spark, participants take control of their creative future, creating a path to their own sustainable filmmaking career. And that's the biggest win out we can think of.

I’m not a filmmaker or creator. Can I still get involved with Keep It Colorful?

We’d love for you to help us Keep It Colorful, even if you aren’t a creator yourself! Attend one of our in-person educational events and be sure to fund/follow/share the rally campaigns when they go live! Get the details and sign up for updates. And be sure to register to vote — representation matters in media and in government.
