Mission Statement

I aim to cultivate space for LGBTQIA+ narratives beyond the typically restrictive and trite genres. I'm passionate about dissecting gender and sexuality through mind and body; promoting discussions to broaden perceptions of queer existence through more nuanced and delicate subject matter.

The Story

A queer horror experimental period piece...

1968; Southern United States.

On the precipice of the sexual revolution, good catholic, Virginia ‘Virgie’, finds herself caught between her love for Christ, and her growing infatuation with her beautiful and enigmatic classmate, Diana. As Virginia’s feelings grow, she becomes disillusioned; her reality shattering into macabre dreams, forcing her to reconcile her relationship with both her Holy libidinal Spirit and to confront the presence of something much darker waiting for her behind door 49.

Comps

So... there's this whole world in my head;

I've known it was filmmaking or bust from a very young age. As an individual on the spectrum, it is how I bridge the gap, relating my internal landscape to all the world outside of me.

Visual media is, fundamentally, how I have come to understand my experience as an individual and how I have come to resonate and empathize with the experiences of others; no one experience is isolated or insular. We are all so much more connected than we know.

Storytelling, for me, is an escape from that sort of solipsistic mindset. My stories are characterized by the psychology of holistic self-dissection- mind, body, and spirit. Here I find an allowance of therapeutic expression and play that feels intangible to grasp in a reality that can often feel overwhelming and complicated to discern.

'blue, like green.' is a culmination of all I've sought to navigate thus far in my 23 earthly years. My art seeks to identify; both bodies in their most viscerally dissectible forms and interpret the complex coalescence of the psychological, spiritual, and philosophical landscape of the mind and how the mind might act as its own God.

Having been raised in good ol' North Carolina as a practicing 'good catholic girl' and still working to disentangle the complex web of trauma not only endured within my religious indoctrination but also in reckoning with the death of my own Father at a very young age, I am exuberantly passionate about this story coming to fruition. I aim to evoke emotional sentiment in the viewer, elaborating on under-represented narratives and allowing others to experience their breakthrough of catharsis along with me.

The best movies are the ones where I walk out blissfully sobbing.

People deserve to know their experiences are not anomalies. I'd have realized that sooner if I had seen more neurodiverse, queer, femme, and sapphic bodies in media as I came of age.

My art draws on inspiration from filmmakers and artists I admire- from Julia Ducournau, David Lynch, Hal Ashby, Kubrick, the Coen Brothers, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Nan Goldin, amongst many others, as well as the broader queer communities I've come to know and deeply care for.

This film must be made. I am too passionate and obstinate not to see it through; this story is my release, a closing of a chapter of sorts and an entryway into a new and brighter beginning.

I am driven by community involvement and strive to uplift every artist that collaborates with me. My art, like any good art, is a mutual endeavor. All things I create stem from the intimacy of the collective experience.

I want to spend my life cultivating this very human love with you.

About This Team

MACK FLYNN is proudly on the spectrum and passionate about highlighting neurodivergent characters in film. Their work focuses on the intersection of brain science and spirituality, quantum theory, microbiology, philosophy, experimental media, and etymology. Besides film, his interests include reading theory, collecting trinkets, and exploring music as a conduit for emotional sentiment. As they enter their final semester as a Film & Television student at NYU Tisch, he hopes that this thesis film will be able to embody the AFAB experience of sex, sexuality, and the body.

MAYA SHIMRON is a screenwriter, producer, and assistant director from Boston, MA studying Film & TV at NYU Tisch. As an artist, they are drawn to the absurdities of life and the queer experience. Maya aspires to be a writer for television that amplifies the nonbinary perspective and discussions about mental health. When they're not writing or producing films, Maya likes to care for their plants, try out various cafes around NYC and Brooklyn, and play spider solitaire.

SABINA GAUDIANO is a queer artist from Seattle, WA. She currently attends the New York University Tisch School of the Arts where she is majoring in Film & Television with a focus in Animation. When they’re not working on projects with their friends, you can find them playing video games, watching horror movies, drawing, playing bass, or singing in the shower. Sabina is stoked to be Blue Like Green’s Art Director and cannot wait to share this story with you all.
