The Story
As of April 20, our campaign has successfully concluded, and we are just weeks away from filming. However, we are still striving to achieve our stretch goal.
If you'd like to contribute and receive the same incentives listed, your support—no matter the amount—will significantly enhance production value and ensure a robust post-production phase.

Under the cover of night, a young black soldier dodges bullets, gunfire, and explosions.
But he’s not engaged in combat in some war torn country.
He’s suffering from a psychological break in his own backyard.

His wife rushes from their home in a desperate attempt to help.
They struggle to reestablish their physical and spiritual bond.

Despite a momentary glimmer of optimism, the soldier's mental
state deteriorates, risking the safety of his son.
His only opportunity to avert catastrophe for himself and his loved ones
may lie in the love of his family and a profound encounter beyond the ordinary.

As an actor and filmmaker, I was inspired not long ago to craft a poignant 30-second scene, which has since evolved into a narrative deserving of a larger platform.
In a world reeling from the aftermath of a global pandemic, where the fragility of human life is starkly evident, "Chest Candy" is a beacon of urgency and necessity. This isn't just another movie; it's a vital narrative that demands to be told now more than ever.
- Cultivating Empathy: Through raw emotion and unflinching honesty, this film will invite audiences to walk in the shoes of veterans, to feel their silence, their pain, and their resilience. In a world often plagued by divisiveness, this film serves as a reminder of our shared humanity.
- Pandora's Box of Awareness: The COVID-19 pandemic thrust mental health into the spotlight, especially for communities of color and veterans. "Chest Candy" seizes this moment to challenge the stigmas surrounding mental health and shed light on the unique struggles faced by black veterans.
- Closing the Gap: As reported by NBC News in 2023, revelations from an internal Veterans Affairs report underscore the systemic injustices faced by black veterans, particularly in accessing disability benefits for PTSD. The time to address these disparities is now, and "Chest Candy" serves as a powerful catalyst for change.
- Fostering Understanding: As society grapples with privilege and empathy, "Chest Candy" offers a poignant exploration of the diverse experiences within the black and veteran communities. By delving into the complexities of family dynamics post-service, the film ignites crucial conversations and broadens horizons.
- Authentic Representation: As the filmmaker, I bring a personal connection to the subject matter, with a family history steeped in military service. "Chest Candy" isn't just a story; it's a heartfelt homage to the sacrifices made by veterans and their families, crafted with authenticity and reverence.
- Diverse Perspectives: Through a rich tapestry of characters, "Chest Candy" aims not to preach or judge, but showcase varying outlooks on life post-service. This multiplicity of perspectives provokes empathy and invites audiences to challenge their preconceptions.
- Realistic Portrayals: With a team of consultants/veterans, "Chest Candy" ensures that its portrayal of military life and mental health struggles is both accurate and respectful. By grounding the narrative in lived experiences, the film transcends exploitation to offer genuine insight and understanding in an entertaining, yet thoughtful manner.
-Robert X. Golphin, Writer-Director - "Chest Candy"
While some projects offer sweet escape from a challenging world, socially oriented art enriches our collective narrative. Here's a quick peek at our director's creative philosophy and some of the talented individuals both behind and in front of the camera who have been integral in shaping his creative visions.

Viewers will see and feel the lead characters' longing and sorrow as the camera often lingers in their personal space.
When the action is frantic, such as during the suspenseful midpoint or harrowing climax, the camera may follow along to add to the intensity and unpredictability.
In order to illustrate character development and/or the accompanying uncertainty, the light and color palette may shift between shadows, filthy greens, and cold blues & vanilla/gray as the story dictates.
The project will provide a cinematic experience that will captivate viewers. However, it also seeks to elicit an emotional connection.
The following compilation best represents the tone, emotion, visual, and/or color schemes that "Chest Candy" will employ.
(Clips from Empire, When They See Us, Really Love, Nightingale, Middle of Nowhere, Queen Sugar,
If Beale Street Could Talk, Arrival, and more.)

Currently, we are at a crucial stage in the filmmaking process. We seek your support to bring this project to life.
The script is finalized, though slight revisions will continue to be made as needed. We've completed 50% of the casting process (actors). And we are slated for a 2 day shoot in the Greater Philadelphia region in May or early June 2024.
To move forward with principal photography, we need the support of our community. Our goal of $3,500 represents the essential minimum required to produce the film at a level of quality that honors the efforts of all involved and ensures their work is not undervalued.
Please note that achieving 80% of our proposed budget within 30 days is critical for securing the green light to proceed.
