The Story
When my husband and I decided we were ready to start a family, we, like many couples, (1 in 10 to be exact) were overwhelmed to learn we were struggling with infertility. I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycistic Ovarian Syndrom), the leading cause of female infertility. The journey to conceiving was an isolating and challenging one as I discovered, because whether taboo or simply a matter of privacy, infertility is not something commonly talked about. For more on my journey, read the article I wrote for BRIT & Co.
I wrote GRIT because I believe that some of the broadest and most positive changes in society are in women’s ability to decide when, if, and under what circumstances to have children. More and more, women are pursuing their educations, starting their own businesses, becoming financially independent, traveling the world, and investing in themselves before choosing to have children.
GRIT explores the societal shift towards women choosing to have children later in life. It is ultimately a story about choice, about women having agency over their bodies and their futures, and a film that celebrates all women who are unapologetic, who create their own possibilities, and who posess grit.
